Man tries to rob people in line for LeBron James sneakers, is shot and killed

A man, who tried to rob a group of people waiting in line to buy the new $180 LeBron James sneakers, was shot and killed when one of the customers pulled out a gun, Atlanta police said.

The incident took place before dawn Saturday outside a shoe store in Atlanta's Little Five Points area.

The group was waiting for the store to open for the day so they could buy the LeBron X Denim on its first day of release.

Police said the man approached the group with a gun in hand and tried to rob them.

One of the men in the group took out his own handgun and fired, said Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos.

"A number of witnesses were interviewed and this appears to be self-defense," he said.

Campos said the customer was not charged.

Another customer in line, Taylor White, told CNN affiliate WSB-TV that the would-be robber should have thought twice.

"I didn't even expect him to come up here, thinking it was that sweet. Thinking it's that candy land like that," White said. "He wanted to pickpocket everybody. But people out here, they weren't going for none of that."

In line for some basketball running shoes. Who like those? I would assume quite a few Gangstas. Turns out gangstas don't appreciate being robbed. Darwin at work.

Wait, people pay $180 for sneakers?

WOW

I watched a segment over the weekend on the rare sneaker market. 12 year old kids are buying and selling $800 pairs of sneakers. One kid spends 6-8 hours a day doing nothing but buying and selling high-priced, rare sneakers.

BTW, they showed a buyer/seller convention and few, if any, looked like gangstas. Most were white or asian, suburbia kids.

If there is some actual research done by real scientists to improve these shoes I could swallow the cost. If they are lighter and provide better support for your ankles then they are worth it. A broken ankle or even a severe sprain and you'd never question spending $180 on a pair of sneakers.

I have seen no evidence of actual r&d being applied to these so I assume they are just fashion pieces.

Just consider these sneakers as the gangsta/white suburbia youth version of the woman's purse.

Nice...glad to see that the gun was legal.

It's a step up from women who'll pay double that for shoes that will actually damage their feet.

Women's shoes generally aren't nearly that ugly though.

The blue denim ones look sweet. But, I don't wear Gym shoes often...plus, they are boyish.
