Dont Buy Dell

I am sure people are going to reply to this and say they have had a great experience with Dell. That's all fine and dandy, but at least here me out.

No I didn't have a Dell machine that didn't work. I order one and never got it. Every company can run late on production. Its how they handle you that is why Dell is in my bad book.

I ordered a Dell Studio 15. The machine ended up on seemingly endless delays. I have tried to call Dell only to be told it is Unreasonable to expect a laptop within a month of ordering it. As of right now Dell estimates the exact same NEW system will ship before mine was going to and mine was ordered weeks ago.

I have received calls from dell people who were explicitly told not to call me. I have received multiple different reports about what happened to my laptop. When I was personally insulted by a Dell supervisor for shocker "wanting to know when I would receive my laptop" I called Dell again and that supervisor told me that there was no one I could contact via phone, email, or chat and he wasn't going to do anything about it.

On a side note Dell is falsely advertising about windows 7 upgrades. They say they are free. Having to pay Shipping and Handling means that they are not free. This is not disclosed on their Windows 7 Upgrade page ANYWHERE. *excluding the standard offer disclosure that is on almost ALL of their pages, and is BELOW the actual page, and BELOW the footer with the dell logo and links*

So why do I say don't order Dell. They are dishonest, falsely advertise, and can't even keep their story straight. You paying them tells them that its OK to continue to lie and provide bad service.

Demand more from the companies you do business with.

Yes, I am well aware of complaints against HP.

People seem to think that you have to choose between the lesser of n evils. I say DON'T.

There are companies that rank better on customer service. Choose one of them.

A friend of mine ordered a Dell Inspiron desktop back on June 17th. Every week, the day before the shipping date, he'd get an update saying the order was delayed another week. By the time he canceled his order the estimated delivery date had been pushed back to July 28th. Who knows if they would've just delayed it again. A 6+ week wait on an ordinary desktop is ridiculous.

I ordered a Dell Inspiron 1545 about 3 weeks ago. Shipped a week before the projected ship date. Got the notebook a week early, can't complain there.

Yet another reason to order from their Outlet. 99.9% of the time, the system ships within 24 hours. I once ordered 71 computers from their Outlet within 3 hour's time. They all arrived in 2 days.

Meh, people can have a bad experience with any company, even exceptional ones. A handful of bad experiences should not stop somebody from ordering with them, unfortunately that stuff just happens. I don't do much business with Dell, but the few times I have things have been pretty painless. Had battery problems on my Mini 9, for example, and they overnighted me a new one (all of this at no charge, of course). Was nice because the tech support guy didn't ask me a bunch of obvious questions, I'm fairly tech savvy so I just called up and was like "I've read up on this and tried all the basic troubleshooting stuff, and I'm pretty sure the battery on my laptop is defective" and he got me set up with a replacement. Think I was on the phone maybe 10 minutes.

Also, I can't help but suspect you were being pretty rude to the CS people for them to respond in such a way. Sounds like you were calling them up constantly for updates as well.

Same thing I posted in the other thread goes for you

Thousands of people buy [Dell] and have no problems whatsoever. Some have bad experiences. This is the same with [HP], Gateway, Acer, Asus, MSI, and any other OEM. It is quite irresponsible and honestly rude to condemn an entire brand for everyone else because of one bad experience. So you got treated like shit, big deal. I'm sure theres plenty of people with horror stories about customer service from each of the brands I listed.

You got treated like shit. Get the hell over it

Do you tell that to people who get mugged? How about those who had their loved ones murdered. Perhaps people who have lost limbs due to negligence.

Modern society has made some very resilient people. You would have to be to be able to survive.

This is not one experience, not one order, and not one service rep. There were no less then 12 service reps involved in this order alone. Let alone previous encounters.

Benjamin Franklin is often accredited with saying Those who give up essential liberty for little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. How do you think he would respond when you give up integrity for a nickle.

You may accept SHIT, but I still demand more.

4 dell laptops in my home, all work great and no complaints whatsoever when it came to system build and shipping. At the beginning of this year I accidentally destroyed my 7 month old laptop and had to use my complete care warranty. They shipped a brand new upgraded version by the end of the week.

Don't try to compare this to getting mugged

Get over it. Every brand screws over customers from time to time, as evidenced by the other threads about lenovo and HP linked here. You were one of the unlucky people who got screwed. Dell HP and Lenovo are still as a whole good manufacturers with good customer service.

Lenovo shipped me a brand new HDD through same day shipping when I was in college. I explained to the CSR that it was finals week (which it was) and I needed my laptop ASAP. I had the drive in about 6 hours. :)

I ordered a Dell Latitude for personal use earlier this year. Estimate ship date was 1 month from the time I ordered it. I received it a week later.

At work we use HP servers and paid for same day warranty support. The machine had a bunch of RAM go bad. When HP support was contacted, they said they don't have the memory in stock and they need to order it so it might be a few days before they get the parts to us...

I had a HP workstation with a faulty case fan. My multimeter showed 12V but the fan didn't spin. I contacted HP support and they told me to flash the BIOS and do a HDD check with the on board HP diagnostic software. After 60 minutes on the phone with their tech support they agreed to replace the fan for me. The whole time I kept telling the guy that I had 12V on the fan connector but the fan doesn't turn. I had one delivered 2 days later.

I had a Dell workstation with a faulty fan right out of the box. They sent a tech to replace it the next day. I had one Dell Precision workstation with either a bad motherboard or video card but couldn't pinpoint which component it was. Tech was on site the next day and replaced both. Tech said they didn't have the same video card in stock so they gave me one step up.

Oh bullshit. There's no way you were treated like shit by 12 different service reps. You just sound like an angry little kid who didn't get his candy so you're kicking and screaming and making a big deal out of nothing.

Guess what, they couldn't deliver the product you wanted in the time you wanted. Cancel your freaking order and MOVE ON.

Are you freaking retarded? You're saying that violent acts where someones and taking a life is on the same level as you not getting a laptop when you want it?

Stop reading right there. That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. I don't think Ben was talking about some idiot on a forum whinning about his Dell laptop. Get a grip!

I have also had nothing but good luck with Dell. I have bought two notebooks and a desktop. The notebooks did take some time. The most recent was my wifes XPS 1530 and it took right at a month to built and delivered. But it did give that as the estimate when I bought it. As others have said all companies are going to screw someone sometime, you got unlucky. Speak your mind with your wallet, cancel the order and buy you notebook from someone else. Bitching on here isn't going to get them to change their ways.

My Inspiron for personal use shipped a week early. (it had a two week build date)

Often times, great companies can have less than great people working for them. It happens. I've had zero problems with Dell myself, but I've had less than great luck with HP a couple of times in the past. Eventually things worked out, but it definitely wasn't the easy process I've always had with Dell.
