Luckily I've never had to deal with their customer service since I've never had a problem with any of my Canon cameras.

My A520 had its' lens stuck open. The motor wouldn't return it to the cloed position. Was 11 months into the 1 year warranty. Contacted Canon, shipped the camera, proof of purchase (newegg invoice and delivery confirmation number), a letter stating who I talked to over the phone, and what was wrong with the camera. They fixed it and shipped it back within 2 weeks. I think I shipped to somewhere in Indiana, Terre Haute maybe.

Getting ready to buy my wife an S3-IS. Will be using my Amex to double the warranty :) :) :)

My Canon broke and was replaced under manufacturer warranty no problem, you just had bad luck.

Canon has been soooo awesome for me..

My camera had tremendous scratches from keys

I sent the camera back because the auto focus stopped working..

They fix that and gave me a whole new housing at no additional cost.

Canon has online RMA, you dont even need to go to the store, i bet you they're trying to rip you off...

2. Are flash bulbs even covered under the warranty? It's a part that will normally wear out eventually without any misuse. It just wore out more quickly than normal for you. It'd be kind of like covering an oil filter under a car's warranty. Read the warranty and check on that.

Yes flash are cover.. my friends s110 flash died after 7 month and got it fix for free also..

Since Canon recommends the repair shop and the repair shop tries to pull that sh*t, I would be piss at Canon too.

I can contact Canon execs for you. Some were here a few months ago for some video project. The daughter of the chairman or founder or something used to be an intern here too.

Disclaimer: I cannot really contact Canon top brass without getting in trouble.

Hell Canon has #1 in my book. we had a camera that was a year and a half out of warranty and when the camera started experiencing problems we found that a lot of them had the problem. we called Canon and they paid to have it shipped to them and they replaced it wit ha new camera, when we got the new camera it used a different type of memory so we contacted them again and once again, they paid for shipping and asked that we send them our old memory and they replaced it with the new SD memory.

Unfortunatly for us, my 3 year old decided she wanted to be an under water photographer when we were at the beach. :(

Sorry man, I'm not going to stop buying Canon stuff. And I think between me and the wife we buy enough to make up for you. ;)

Flash tubes should last for hundreds of thousands of shots at full output. It's doubtful that the camera would even last that long.

I can't believe you are so quick to change your mind of not liking a brand based on one bad experiene with a 3rd party repair service. I will bet you that that repair service also repairs Nikon, Kodak, and many other brands of cameras.

Actually, I did have that pop up. I opened the little plastic pieces that cover the lense. I blew on the lens and bing! problem solved.

I explained what's been going on, but have not heard back at all. I am rather disappointed, and upset, as I think most people would be.

I have to say that these days we all tend to rely on email too much. I know I do this too, complain to someone by email, and never hear back. Then if you actually phone, or show up in person, you get a fairly different, and reactive response. Try actually getting ahold of a live person to work through your troubles.

I've only had 1 Canon product that needed warranty work, and I was extremely pleased with the response I got.

You should edit your deceptive thread title, Archman it's dishonourable to impugn Canon's name for the actions of an independent repair center.

I just had my sd550 repaired. It was effortless. Just call the number on your warranty card and they'll open a ticket and tell you where to send the camera. Two weeks to repair, including shipping both ways. They replaced the optical unit under warranty. To boot, they always answered the phone on the first ring (called three times).
I'll never buy anything but a Canon.

Heres what you do, grab a camcorder, and a friend and a microphone. When you go to pick up your camera after refusing to pay for repairs, interview the guy/manager/whatever and pretend to be doing a story on crooked repair centers.

.... profit.

Same here, I had nothing but positive experiences with Canon. I just had my SD450 repaired as the buttons on the side of the display screen were sticking, mainly the little menu button that's inside the outer ring. I called the number that's on the warranty card, they were courteous and told me where to ship the camera to, and then sent me an email with all of the directions to follow, including a form to fill out explaining what the problem was with the camera. I didn't get to ship the camera to them free like Subb did, but I sent it out Fed Ex priority with tracking, made it there in one day, and a week later I had my camera back, they shipped it back to me Fed Ex priority. The camera has worked flawless ever since.

Don't blame Canon for that vendor trying to scam you. I'm not buying that Canon told you to send it to a vendor if it's under warranty. SD300 is an old camera, and there's no way you bought it new in the past year. I'm guessing your warranty is expired, and THAT'S why you were told to go to a vendor. If your camera is under warranty, they fix it in Elks Grove, Illinois at their repair facility.

Fess up, tell us all the facts and the truth, then rename this thread as Canon is still top of the line and high quality, and not at fault for your mistakes.

I did phone Canon this morning, and spoke with someone directly. They were shocked to hear what happened, and have asked me to mail it into their own service centre in Calgary, Alberta.

Sometimes when a person gets mistreated they really need to blow some steam, and that's what I was doing here, and taking the sage advice of those willing to offer it. I've never had any issues with Canon in the past, and their products have always out done the competition. I was really PO'd at the service center that is representing Canon in Vancouver.

Hey, sometimes when we are mad we say things, or do things that we later wish we had not done. Anyways, I'm sorting it out with them via the phone. I was also told the person looking after my email reference went on holidays *lol* wish I'd know that before they'd left.

Thank you
