The US would have gone to war no matter what, if the French hadn't said they'd veto the resolution, the US would have gone to war, the said they would veto it, the US is going to war, all the French have done is decide for the US whether they have support of the UN or not, and since the US reckons the UN doesn't work anyway, how has anything the French done affected things?

I will blame the French/German/Russians all I want. The French claimed high moral ground when they were protecting their financial holdings in Iraq, while the US is trying to safeguard the lives of its citizens. Two months later the US says to heck with France while its 100 degress out and the troops have to fight in hell because France wanted to see a damn nuke go off before declaring Iraq in violation. Screw them.

If France and Russia had supported us, and the U.N had presented total solidarity on this issue, Iraq might have aquiesced and it might not have come to war. It is alot easier for Saddam to thumb his nose at 3 countries (US, UK, Spain) than it would be were it the entire world. By France & Russia taking the stance against war that they did they may have in fact destroyed a chance at a peaceful resolution.
