I started reading the guarding thing, but when there were comments about the use of the word "man" I started to be dubious as to the sense of Dawkins. More than I already was after his shows on the evils of religion.
(I'm already an atheist).
Man is a generic term for humans, as well as specifically referring to males, there is nothing wrong with using it.
