Anyone else like using words that sound like something else but have a completely different meaning to a more common word that it sounds like just to see the reaction people have? These are a few of the ones I use on occasion.

Niggardly
Masticate
Crapulence
Vomitorium
Pulchritudinous
Comely

I have a few more but I can't think of them off the top of my head. When the situation for a "fun" word arises then it usually pops in my head. I don't always toss it out there but I do on occasion depending on the company. Anyone do this or have other words?

Vestibule is another one I just remembered and Corpulence is a good one as well.

You get corpulence from crapulence though! :awe:

Hehe, usually when I get asked what I'm going to do after work I will sometimes say, "I'm just going to go home and masticate and do nothing much else." Basically meaning go home and eat dinner and then nothing really. I get some queer looks from some people the first time they hear me say that.

Droll. I don't use this word at all but so many people have no idea what it means. They think it means "dull" but it means "oddly amusing."

Hipster. I don't think this term has a meaning anymore. It's just an adjective people use to describe anything they don't like.

Comprise. It is not the same as "compose." "The United States comprises 50 states" means the same as "the United States is composed of 50 states." You shouldn't ever use the words "is comprised of."

e.g./i.e. e.g. means you're about to give an example; i.e. means "in other words."

You can get banned for using the word 'savage' on this forum. I'd be careful, OP.

what's wrong with 'savage'?

Mods if 'savage' is bad, I didn't mean to quote it. I don't agree with it, cause I know y'all say if you quote something you agree with it.

Someone used the word "savages" in a thread about 18 black guys raping a white girl.
