what exactly does it mean, i dont really get it.... especially when they say it instead of saying "bye" or "later" or something.....

Oh well, I shall explain it anyway.


A stranger is someone you do not know.

SO

If you know them, you are not a stranger, but to know them, you would have to be around them...........

I guess it means that don't forget us or welcome , say hello to us.🙂
Googling the phrase produced pointless sites with pointless info.🙁
 
it means to keep in touch. not to be a "stranger" as in someone that they dont talk to often or know well/at all.
 
it basically means "I'm a clingy person and need people around me, I don't want to lose friends, please keep in touch"

Yep. 🙂 Possibly one of my favorite phrases with people I've met around campus and in life. It's always good to know you're welcome to stay in touch and chat with acquaintances, even if you're not close enough to be deemed friends.
