A stranger is someone you do not know.

SO

If you know them, you are not a stranger, but to know them, you would have to be around them...........

Yep. Possibly one of my favorite phrases with people I've met around campus and in life. It's always good to know you're welcome to stay in touch and chat with acquaintances, even if you're not close enough to be deemed friends.
