Donovan McNabb didn't know that NFL games could end in ties

What did ... I mean ... how can ... wow. That's it, wow. He didn't know that games could end in a tie. You know who knows that games can end in ties? Everyone. Even Tony Siragusa knows that. Yet a quarterback who has led his team to four NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl didn't know. I mean, it's not like the referee says it before every overtime session! (And to those who think he's joking, he's not. Donovan laughs at his own jokes more than Jon Stewart; his demeanor was far too serious for that to be a joke, despite what his inevitable excuse is today.)

What did Donovan think that "T" section in the standings was next to the "W" and "L"? Was he confused when he had to run a hurry up offense with two minutes left? And in 2002, when his team played the 9-6-1 Falcons in the playoffs, did McNabb think those numbers represented the Atlanta area code?

Maybe athletes' lack of knowledge about the sports they play is more widespread than we know. (This would explain Joe Morgan.) A friend of mine who played college football had no clue that there wasn't a two-minute warning in the college game. But I just emailed him and even he knew that NFL games end in ties.

I guess the only saving grace is that they have such a miserable conference and division record that this tie won't hurt them all that much.

Heh.. I didn't know they could end in a tie either..

So, do post season rules change, or can those games end in ties as well?

I think he was being a bit... I dunno... sarcastic? Hard to describe what I mean, but I'd be HIGHLY surprised if he didnt know it could end in a tie. I'm thinking he is like me where it is just so rare its like its not part of teh game.

He didn't know about the Steelers-Falcons tie 6 years ago? He was in the league then

Pretty clear from the video that he wasn't being sarcastic.

McNabb lies, it's been proven time and time again, and while it's remotely feasible he didn't know about ties in the NFL the moment I heard him said what he said I just rolled my eyes. I mean, he was in his 4th or 5th fucking year in the NFL the last time there was a tie, not to mention growing up following the NFL he HAD TO have seen a tie or at least heard about it.

So for whatever reason he chose to go this route on the issue, it's not exactly calling Pam Oliver a liar or accusing T.O. of black-on-black crime or trying to hide the fact he got sick and was winded during the Super Bowl, but this man is capable of ANYTHING! And he'll just fucking smile and nod like he always does pretending everything is hunky-dory. The sad part is I can't tell if it's Reid influence on him that caused him to be such a pompous joker or if he just has something against the media/philly fans. Whatever, he'll be gone soon enough, but if he played his cards a little better he might have left a much better legacy behind.

Meh, McNabb is known for some pretty dry humor. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a joke that nobody got. Regardless, I don't care. He's just a player - the coach is the one that calls the plays.

Yea, and an entire team didn't know Flutie could do that punt field goal thing he did a couple years back. So what. If it doesn't happen very often a lot of people won't know about it.

Wait... Is there only one 15 minute, sudden-death, overtime period before a tie is called? I thought there was more than one.

Me [...] came to that conclusion about ten minutes before I saw this thread.

You are crossing into the realm of the ignorant...careful.

Too late, based on his post, he's already there.

The level of ire in your post is disproportionate to the gravity of his offense.

Three BBWAA members with voting privileges gave Edinson Volquez rookie of the year votes even though he wasn't eligible for rookie status this year.

Bit less common than the T column that appears on every standings board.

Rush Limbaugh is an idiot. The number of times he's been right has been few and far between...hell, a broken clock is right twice a day.

About what? Rush being right about McNabb? I think he said McNabb was overrated. And he was absolutely right about that.
