I know I know.... Late to the game... Just saw this movie and it was much better than I anticipated. The wife got the directors cut from NetFlix because she has seen the regular version but wanted to see the directors cut... Now I want to see the regular version of the film.

I need to watch it again....

Good movie, but vastly overrated.

Overrated by the online message board crowd...yes. I think it's a pretty good movie...but it doesn't warrant the cult following IMO.

Totally.
I think the "online message board crowd" is looking too far into this movie and hasn't been exposed to much decent film.

Enlighten me with some decent film suggestions.

hey, it's teen angst with some Sci Fi in it...what more do you need?

I enjoyed "Brick" much more...very well acted...the story line was well done...and the dialogue was superb.

I found Gross Point Blank to be extrmely entertaining in a similarly absurd way. Loved Darko.

I agree. It is a good movie but I just think it's all the EMO kids out there pumping this movie.

My obligatory YADDT comment:

"Donnie Darko? What kind of a name is that? Sounds like a superhero."
"What makes you think I am not?"

It's good, but not groundbreaking. It didn't change my life, the internet buzz was a bit much...

The movie ($5 million budget) barely made half-a-million dollars at the box office. Fans tend to root for the little guy with a little more enthusiasm. Can't blame them for that.

That's partially because only a handful of people gave it a chance in the theatres. It says a lot about a movie when they re-release it to theatres, too.
