Are you setting a price first, or deciding on your needs first?

Why are you having second thoughts?

well I bought the board thinking I would use sli but now I don't think i will and also I have read alot about problems with this board

also I was thinking I should get one that can take ddr3 for future upgrades.

Don't worry about DDR3. Moving from DDR2 to DDR3 isn't much of an upgrade, and never will be without changing platforms.

Rather than throwing out an arbitrary price range, why don't you define what you need in a board? You've already ruled out SLi, which I assume also rules out Crossfire. How many SATA ports do you need? Onboard RAID? Firewire? eSATA? Overclocking features?

the only thing I want to do is overclock a bit. everything else is not really important my computer is strictly for gaming.

going to buy either Q9450 of Q9550

Here's what I have

EVGA 780i Mobo
8gb(2x2 sets) OCZ Sli Memory pc26400
Raptor 150gb hd
corsair hx620 power supply
LG multidrive
LG cd drive

For a strictly gaming computer there isn't much use in 8GB. I've even seen benchmarks where it produces a slight drop in performance compared to 4GB. Since you're not going SLI, get an Intel chipset motherboard. At this point I'd recommend a nice P45 board probably, like the ASUS P5Q Pro or similar.

What graphics card are you going to run?
