While searching around for information on something from a few years ago I eventually turned to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine as I sometimes do, and came across their current year's-end, tax deductible, donation drive
The idea of a 4X donation multiplier struck me as a pretty good deal, particularly considering how much I appreciate the Wayback Machine, so I set out to find the "donate with paypal" button when I noticed that they've offered up the option of contributing bitcoins as well.
Now, when I convert BTC to $$ I usually incur roughly 15% overhead, so donating through bitcoins would actually result in a ~4.7X multiplier. Not too shabby.
But this idea raised a couple of questions --
First: Can a donation of bitcoins really be tax deductible? I wonder...
Second: Would the bitcoin donation also be matched 3-to-1, and at what BTC conversion-rate?
I've tried finding an answer to the latter on Archive.org but haven't had any luck so far. The former question on the other hand, although broader, is of less import to me because I probably wouldn't have much use for the deduction in any case.
Anyway, there it is. Consider tossing some coin to the Archive if you happen to have some to spare -- If there's one thing that Quake 3 taught me, it's that Quad Damage makes a helluva difference! (also: no such thing as too much strafe-jumping)
