I was wondering why Anand doesn't provide an option to donate to the site, e.g. using PayPal. I don't have a job right now and can't afford to pay the premium forum membership, but can definitely drop a few bucks into the Anandtech basket.

There are so many members that even if one out of ten can contribute a few dollars, it will at least partially cover the cost of bandwidth. Or would it be so little money that it wouldn't make a difference?

I, VBboy, hereby declare by decision not to start any new threads in any of the Anandtech forums unless forced to do so by a third party for reasons beyond my control. On March 18th of 2003 at 3:41 PM, VBboy shall be allowed to start a new thread if he chooses to do so.

:)

Edit: ah, forgot to sign.

Signed: VBboy

How is it a business? A business sells products or services. Anandtech posts articles and provides forums. Ad-banner revenue would not keep a company afloat even 2 years ago. Unless Anand gets paid for reviews...

He is selling subscriptions, right? That would be a service. I can see how it falls under the business category. It surely isn't a not-for-profit venture. How does he pay for his lifestyle, doesn't the guy drive a porche or something?

What would you classify it as, VBboy?

Subscription selling cannot possibly cover all the hosting, electricity, backup, employer, and other costs. It's more of a "business on the side".
