it really depend on where you are. In most places where there's military base nearby, cops are not very forgiving to military members.

Weird... anybody know why this would be the case?

Well, there are a lot of young punks in the military (meaning: young, stupid, think they are bulletproof), and they do stupid stuff as young kids are prone to doing. They buy fast cars, drink underage, etc., and get in trouble with the locals. It happens more at training bases, but anywhere where there's a large segment of junior personnel, you're going to find young military folks getting in trouble with the law.

When there's always military around, there's no novelty in seeing military personnel.

I always ask what % of my donation actually goes to the police. The answer I got was usually only 10%!!! No thanks.

It depends on the cop I guess. Who can really say if it got them out of a ticket? The cop might have let them off with a warning regardless. I had a PBA card when I first got my license. Used it the first two times I got pulled over and didn't get a ticket. But I also didn't get a ticket the next 6 times I got pulled over (9th time finally did it).

It's not like those FOP stickers are hard to come by. I had a solicitor call me for a donation while I was in college. I was hung over so I said I'd donate $20 just to get off the phone. They sent me the bill with two stickers. I was a poor college student, so I set it aside to pay later. Then they sent me another bill with another sticker. And another bill with another sticker. Then they called and asked why I hadn't paid yet. Eventually I got around to paying the bill, and I had a few extra stickers to hand out to my friends. All for $20!

Kind of like a college in a small college town. The townies don't like the students.

A lot of ex-military goes to the police force. If they live in an area with a lot of military members, they probably see more military people than non. We tend to do a lot of stupid stuff, especially right before/after boot camp, and before/after deployments.

Reservists are bad because we're trained to pass our military ID to the officer along with our drivers license. Police in an area with a reservist base are very used to seeing reservist ID's and show no mercy, and many times do as much as they can against the person, since military are supposed to be held to a higher standard.

Generally speaking, and with very few exceptions, the FOP does NOT contact people for donations. A vast majority of the time, it is a scam. We collect from our own members. Outside sources are welcome of course, but telemarketing for it is usually a scam. Only a small percentage of that money actually goes towards any police organization.

the biggest thing that will help aside from not breaking the law would be to get OUT of a target car, make your care less of a target, keep it less as target...

EX.

my first car: 94 toyota celica. Typical younger persons car...looks kind cool...not fast, but i suppose it looks fast if you're stupid like most people...
# of tickets: 1 est. % of speeding: 80%

second car: f150. didnt have it long, but never got a ticket and speed just as much
third car: explorer sport. very common amoung young people, but also amoung middle-older as well.
zero tickets. pulled over once for being an idiot (passed in the emergency lane because the person in front of me was completely retarded...yes yes, stupid i know) sped a little less than in previous cars...didnt wana flip...

fourth car: 97 240sx. very 'racer' looking car...well...ricer racer...but wtf ever, damn good car...slow...but looked awesome (note: no cosmetic or performance mods)
1 ticket: sped about the same as f150/celica...

fifth car: 97 240sx (modded w/ 2.0L turbo, etc. 250+ RWHP) LOUD as a motherfcker...looked good...very minor and non-ricey cosmetics...
3 fvcking tickets...and sped a little more than all the others...but really not that much...

sixth car: 98 mustang gt convetible...possibly the most targeted car of all time...owned by many...driven stupidly by many...
only got 1 ticket...but i didnt have it long...sped just as much as 240sx turbo

seventh car: 91 supra turbo...old school...but a decently fast car...looks good...
didnt get any tickets...but i had it for a month, lol...

8th car: 2000 ford crown vic police interceptor. YES, retired cop car...possibly the best car ive ever owned...FAST (not as much as the 240 turbo, but easy as fast as the mustang) and it handled like a dream considering it is an oil tanker on wheels...i sped litereally everwhere...it was almost as if i was trying to get a ticket and i never got pulled over...not even ONCE...i was going through an intersection and a cop was waiting to my right for his light to change...i was doing 10-15 over the limit and he didnt even care...maybe off duty, i dunno, but in any other car my ass would have another ticket... :/...man i miss that car :(

9th (current) car: 99 grand marquis (same as crown vic, just mercury) slow compaired to PI and mustang, but its alright, comfrotable as hell....i dont speed as much as i used to (maybe the granny in the car got to me?) but i was doing 85 on the itnerstate (limit is 70, i think it is diff. in some states) and a cop got me (i have radar detector, i was the only car around in the middle of the day) and did nothing. i know he clocked me, so he was on duty, and just didnt give a fvck...

ok..so that was long as hell...but my point is... if you exlcude the factors of the situation (because sometimes your so guilty there is no disproving it) then the car you have is a HUGE factor....maybe instead of spending some cash on useless stickers you could get a nice, reliable, big, comfortable, and peppy granny car :D just a thought...

OH...i have retired military (dad) plates...i think that has helped me get out of some tickets (ive been pulled over like..20 times...although zero in the past 1.5 years...i was a dumb teen trying to grow out of it.. :p )

girls...tighten up the shirt and raise the skirt...it works in most cases...i have proof...

Ha! I knew you were "The Man".

Like I said the telemarketers that have called me only give a low percentage of the donation to the FOP. We contribute directly to our local Sheriff?s search & rescue fund instead.
