I have many books I need to get rid of and some other stuff like kids toys, paperweights, etc.

I cant just throw it all out. It pains me to think this stuff will end up in a dump. I wish someone could take advantage from it or benefit from it somehow.

I did some research online and I dont see anything I am looking for. Charity/donation organizations offer one of the two options:

a)You schedule a pickup and they pick it up from you.
(But I am not giving these people my address, they will then come begging to my doorstep all the time or send me junk mail asking for money)

b)I have to send my junk to them at MY expense.
(Are you kidding? I am giving stuff to you FREE, and you want me to PAY for it?)

What I want is to find an organization that will take my stuff AND pay for shipping. Does anyone know of such an organization?

Thanks.

Take to good will? I have people pick up my donations at my home, they won't hound you. Why in the world would they pay for your shipping? That's money they could be using to help people instead of placating your fear of actually interacting with people.

freecycle.org.

Gotta register and join your local group but people will take your stuff.

Our local hospice has a resale shop. The profits go to help people that need hospice, but can not afford it.

In Houston there is a resale shop that helps a womens shelter. You drop the stuff off in the back, its cleaned, then put up front for resale. Kinda like what goodwill does, but the money stays local and goes to a shelter that helps abused women.

Make some phone calls OP, you should be able to find somewhere to donate the stuff.

I would certainly think that in a town the size of NYC, there would be at least one or two thrift stores operated by legitimate charities...most of them are happy to accept drop-offs, and many will even pick up at no charge...and, at least the ones here, they don't hound you constantly for more...more...more.
