Donating blood?

It's been a while, but college was really where I began. I did it pretty much everytime I could, so that's 3 - 4 times a school year each year. It was pretty fun actually, and only once did I feel slightly lightheaded as I walked out the door (felt dizzy a few seconds walking down campus then I shook my head a few times grabbed my water bottle and I was fine again).

Anyway, work finally e-mailed out that there would be a blood drive at the company next door and we're welcome to sign up also. Signed right up.

Edit: Boo. I thought it was on a Friday. I signed up for a Thursday this week. I suppose no gym on Thursday. Time to move the lifting to Wed.

I gave blood once, and then the second time I tried to do it they said my iron was too low. Then I got a tattoo, and ever since have been pretty much anemic. So unfortunately, no :\

I'm basically in the same boat as nerdress. By the time I think I wasn't having a lot of iron issues, stressed kicked in and iron issues resumed along with the commencement of my large backpiece. And now that I'm far enough from my last ink session, I'm pregnant and can't donate anyway. I think I'll just stick to volunteer work for helping my fellow humans.

A little worried since I tend to have lowish blood pressure and I dunno what taking some away will do. Particularly worse in the warmer months and that's when they tend to visit the campus. I may try it next time one rolls around though.

i've given twice & both times i got pretty queasy, pale.

the blood letting folks noticed this and gave me a drink and put a towel on my head and i was fine after that.

i'll just tell the techs that i tend to get that way and just give me a drink to start w/.

Anthrax shots and malaria pills? ;)

There was this guy from college who would always talk about his getting high experience (he wasn't a pothead or anything). I suppose it was one of the few times he did it and he would always talk about how the Red Cross blacklisted him or something because they didn't want his blood after taking a sample. What an awkward kid.

I used to until I found out patients opted for death over transfusion with my blood. Pfft... their loss. :|

That is my least favorite part too. I do it anyway, a couple of times a year.

I do when I can. Tattoos and such have kept me from being allowed for the last few years.

I'm sorry, but I read your user name and I thought you really were a Man. I guess I was wrong. You should change your name to AstroWomanLuca :)

The one time that I did give blood, I was about 115 pounds (15 pounds under the weight I should have been at), and so they took blood without taking any plasma; but towards the last 10 minutes of it, my body started heating up and despite the blood center being a ridiculously cool 50 something degrees, they had to put ice packs on my neck and forehead until I was finished. Nearly passed out, too. That was weird

I used to donate whole blood every 8 weeks like clockwork. Now I donate platelets every 2 weeks like clockwork. My stupid platelet count isn't very high so I'm on the machine for like 2 hours :(
