Donald Trump is a liar

Legend: A stranger who stopped to change a tire on a disabled limo was rewarded for his efforts when the vehicle's passenger, Donald Trump, paid off his mortgage.

"During a January 2005 episode of the television series The Apprentice, The Donald was asked about the veracity of this legend by one of those vying for the show's ultimate prize and did respond that the incident did indeed happen. He is far from the first celebrity to claim an item of contemporary lore as an anecdote from his own life (see our page about the Hare Dryer legend for a number of such examples)."

He lied to make himself look like a nice guy. Is he a big a$$hat or just too old to remember his own life?

I cant belive they verify it false when they do not know all the facts. Do not believe everything you read on snopes.

I'd have to agree. Was someone from snopes with him every second of his life? The very best they could do is say that it's unlikely, especially when Trump claims it's true.

I only think of Trump as a good BUSINESSman. I don't know about charity.

That is kind of odd, especially when they often label things as indeterminate.

Of course, one of Snopes' long-standing policies has been that no single source is infallible or completely authoritative - not even Snopes.

And snopes can't be wrong? He's done charitable things similar if you had finished reading the rest of the Snope's article.

i saw that. i was surprised he lied.

if you read snopes, you will see why its extremely unlikely to be true. what limo driver would not know how to change a tire or not have a cell phone to call AAA or another limo to pick trump up?

Well there are any number of possibilities why....

Maybe they didn't have a jack, a spare, etc....

I read through the whole thing as well and don't think its definately false.

The story occured around 9 years ago. Maybe cell phone coverage wasnt as good back then? Maybe they were in a rural area with bad coverage from their cell phone? If you read the information the driver reported to have a cell phone that was not working at the time.

Disappointed in Snopes. Reading the article and the evidence given should not discount the entire claim.

"Unlikely" should be the verdict.

Just because there is doubt, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Trump's likely to have helped many people and organizations and it's not publicized. It just happens to be easy to rag on the rich.

As for the reasonability of whether the scenario can be debunked on the basis of a Limo Driver's ability to change a tire or whether they have AAA service:

1. Some limo services have contract repair which is almost unionized in that the limo driver just drives; the repair service is called to do service. No matter whether the driver is capable, there are contracts that limit the scope of a persons tasking.

2. I have very comprehensive road-side assistance via my auto-insurance provider. If someone is kind enough to pull over and give me a hand and I haven't called the service or the ETA on the service would be after I can get it done; I'll gladly accept the help.

In the end, it doesn't really matter whether you like Trump or just plain give the benefit of the doubt to other than rich people.
