Here is a database of salaries for H1B visa holders.

It only seems to go up 2013 and I can't tell where they're getting their information from. But just look at the first page and tell me if you think some of those salaries are competitive.
edit: btw, the number of H1B visas is capped at 65k per year. The US has been creating on average about 200k new jobs per month or over 2M per year. So in order for H1b workers to be getting parity with permanent residents, that would mean that the demand exceeds supply. That's definitely possible in some specialties, but overall? IDK.
