I can add a few...

In 2018, filed an amicus brief with SCOTUS Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue to defend 1st amendment rights of parents and student who attend religious school to participate in private school scholarships.

in 2019, issued targeted sanctions on Russian officials for religious freedoms violations and torture of Jehovah Witnesses.

in 2018, signed the "First Step Act", a bipartisan bill which sought to rehabilitate prisoners by expanding job training and early release programs.

Expanded the military.

Although GDP growth was meh, unemployment numbers were phenomenal. Until 2020.

Lowered taxes on most.

Banned bump stocks.

Those are a few. There are far more I disagree with, but thats another thread.

"Almost" is a qualifier that shouldn't be followed by "started a war".
"Almost":
wore a tan suit - acceptable
Put mustard on a hot dog - also acceptable
Said "malarkey" - acceptable

and yet, it also means it never happened.

1) I think there were some meager criminal justice reforms in place under his administration.

2) Also some states did pass red flag gun laws under his support. You could plausibly argue that under his watch school and mass shootings are actually down, though that's probably more related to COVID than anything. Didn't the worst mass shooting on US soil technically occur under his watch (the vegas shooting)? I think giving him credit for mass shootings is at best a push.

That's kind of about it.

Pretty much everything else was a total shit show and he deserves to go down in history as one of the worst human beings to ever walk the planet.

As far as genuinely positive things I can think of two, the "right to try" law, if anyone has a severe illness and is facing death they can try non-approved drugs/therapies as they wish, I agree with this stance. 2nd was I think he did get some criminal justice reform in place, less people in jail is usually a good thing in the long run.

Yes, strangely, I think we can point to an actual president-celebrity partnership, as weird as it may have appeared, that ended up being the best thing a president did (but also an actual good thing; not because that it is a preposterously low bar, here. lol).

Trump + KK and the prison/drug enforcement reform. j...was actually really good and I think very popular among all possible voters/people. I wonder if she had to let him touch her ass a few times, right? You almost have to wonder, you know, considering the way his brain works and his ability to concentrate/maintain focus for more than seconds, on any task or project. He was actually very consistent with those policies, or he actually put the one competent person in the white house in charge of that, specifically. (...Tiffany? lol. maybe)

...I don't know, while that sounds "fair" and almost even logical in a sense, it also sounds like the same thing as qualifying online, non-competitive university degrees with access to the same federal funding that actual Universities get--which has added tremendously to the "education debt-to-hireability" problem (not actual degrees, in "liberal arts" at actual universities--so, literally garbage degrees from garbage universities). Anyway, considering how ridiculously expensive that private K-12 education can be, it sounds like you are hamstringing a lot of students and sapping a bunch of money away from a diverse, competitive education to one that is designed to shut down critical thinking at the time in life when it is most necessary.

If I'm driving a car and you're a passenger, and I purposefully almost crash the vehicle (but didn't), you almost die (but didn't), do I get to call myself a good driver because no one got hurt?

As with all things Trump, "almost but didn't start a war" is an incredibly low bar to clear

Yes. No one was hurt.

Using your word purposely, which war did Trump purposely almost start?

Edit... If you purposefully try and cause and cause an accident, and no one gets hurt, you're a fucking terrible driver lol

Expanded the military.

Explain
I hope you are not riding on "Space Force" or simply looking at total spending and think that means we have "Expanded the military"
I can make spending look bigger too when I screw around with procurement plans where F35s and Ships that were planned for 2022 and 2023 were reduced so that we could buy more in 2018-2019 to make ourselves look like were "Big spenders cause Murica".

Please explain how exactly the military has been expanded since 2016

I think he left spending off. Does it really matter? He never has a valid point.

I forgot about the bump stock ban. That was a good move and the First Step Act. On the FiveThirtyEight podcast, they were actually talking about how much he blew advertising that he signed the First Step Act. He apparently signed it into law away from the media and never mentioned it.

Precisely, which made Trump a terrible president. Pick virtually any situation and Trump will have done the absolute wrong thing, with the caveat that a broken clock is right twice a day.

What I was alluding to was him assassinating General Solemani, which was given to him as the "terrible fucking idea no one in their right mind will pick so the other choices don't look so bad in comparison" option. He chose the terrible fucking idea.

And if your rebuttal is "iran would be stupid to pick a fight with us", they didn't, and wouldn't. They're not stupid. We (Trump) started that shit up for no reason at all, and only got away with it because we're the biggest bully on the block/world police. If we didn't have a nearly $1T military budget with the biggest fleets and most advanced hardware on the planet, the international response would have been markedly different.

Odd, people are giving Trump credit for not starting a new war. They forget he almost got us into two by incompetence. One with North Korea and this one.
Donald Trump Almost Started a War with the Wrong Country (dailykos.com)

Jimmy Carter didn't get us into a new conflict and brought real Middle East peace but he gets no credit. What scale are we grading on? If you have to give someone credit for not doing bad things we have sunk to a new low.

Well, you can't blame people for scraping the barrel, as there isn't much to pick from. His foreign policy was moderately-incompetent without being frighteningly-aggressive. It clearly could have been much worse. As I've said before, it was fortunate he was such a parochial guy, uninterested in the world outside the US other than the golf-courses. He lacked the confidence - and interest - that would have allowed him to really do damage in that sphere. The one bad thing he clearly wasn't was a neo-con.

And the scale for grading has changed since Carter - the US has had a long strong string of aggressive and hawkish leaders, fond of putting the world to rights via bombing. Not all of them Republicans.

He pointed out the flaws in our government that allowed people like him to take advantage and trash it.

Yup - he "stress-tested" the US political system and Constitution. Wasn't there a "heist" movie, probably with Robert Redford (they always feature Robert Redford) where we see the protagonist apparently cunningly rob a bank, only to then walk up to a panel of bank board members and return the purloined McGuffin and explain to them exactly how he did it and what that reveals about the flaws in their security?

Perhaps Trump will suddenly transmogrify into a different character entirely and calmly explain all the ways he's revealed that the US system needs to be fixed?

I don't understand what the first one is, but anything to do with religious or private schools is probably a bad thing.

The second one is something I hadn't heard of, and maybe that's a genuinely positive thing. Surprised he would do anything to sanction Russians though - was that really him or was it just that he couldn't block others in the administration from doing it?

Most of the others seem to be of questionable merit or no big deal, that would have happened under any President.

One real thing he did was step up NATO members game. Permanently. The full effect is not seen yet, and its not least attributed to the fact that another Trump may happen somewhere down the line. From an European perspective a good thing.

We came within a whisker of starting a war with Iran when he had Solomeini offed. He also totally destabilized a region that was already in horrible straits when he pulled US troops out of Syria, selling out the Kurds, and gifting Syria to Putin.
