What you say is true at one level. People fancy themselves to be wonderful and can still be quite hideous. You know this because you can see at a deeper level, have had the mask of normalcy ripped of your face. I think you know what it means to suffer existentially, to see the needless death and suffering the human ego creates. But I believe that ego is a mask that hides terrible pain that folk do not want to know they suffer. I believe we were born in a clean state with infinite potential and told by putdowns and punishment that we are worthless. This is a state of agony that no child can consciously survive so he or she dies psychically to his or her true self and become a pretense of an ego, a conformist who has joined the side of his torturers or a rebel who rebels against them. Either way, this ego is a savior that protected us from feeling how worthless we were made to feel. We love this ego that saved us from pain and would rather die than die psychically again. We have egotistical pride, a form of ego self love instead of real self respect. I believe it is possible to die to the ego and return to ones original state and I believe that state of consciousness is what God is, the projection of what we really are out there. To me this God state is real so it doesn't matter if God is out there or in here and it doesn't really make a big difference. At the core of our being there is a mystery where up is down and love is hate, a mystery that is solved by contact with one's true self. Questions don't have answers, they just disappear.

We differ in opinions here, i believe that humans are inherently exactly the product of their genetics and environment and that this controls all "free will" we have.
