can't imagine where you get your definitions. but. no. by this def. my 870 is automatic - lol

Well that's the point. I get my definitions from a better source than people who say a semi auto is same as an auto, if you just pull the trigger real fast. :p

well, ok. i suppose there may be someone out there who can pull the trigger 800 times a minute. now all we have to do is find a 800 round mag that comfortably fits your glock 19 :D. personally my trigger finger is tired after about 10 or twelve rounds ;)

Wat?

For starters, all fully automatic rifles are illegal without permit from the ATF (which is near impossible to obtain, as you have to provide a valid reason for need one and 'home defense' and 'good shoot' don't cut it).

Secondly, most people who are idiots likely believe AR-15s (as if they even know what that is) are fully automatic and can shoot a thousand bullets a second, blow up cars, and are the cause all the majority of gun deaths. And they are wrong on all accounts.

I don't think this is true.

A fully auto license isn't impossible at all, it's just a major pain in the ass and expensive. A very expensive hobby to say the least. You could easily drop 10K on a gun, and remember, they don't go bang, bang, bang, bang, bang real quick......they go dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar. Civilians also can't legally own any fully automatic weapons made after 1986.

OK, to a point I can understand where people say it is semantics. What is the real difference, tactically, from someone using a semi-auto version vs. a full auto version of the same rifle?

There is obviously a "Technical" difference between the two,a HUGE difference. But it's only a difference between (press trigger multiple times) vs (hold down trigger) and a reality difference between fire rate.

That there is some profound overall difference between the two (AR 15 s/a vs AR 15 f/a) I think is a bit disingenuous to the overall problem, which is the efficiency of some of these rifles in BOTH firing modes.

:D +1

1. CNN has a rabidly anti-gun anchor who regularly spews a mixture of lies and ignorance.
2. Nobody watches CNN.
3. CNN decides the problem is which rabidly anti-gun anchor they selected and replaces him with a different rabidly anti-gun anchor who regularly spews a mixture of lies and ignorance.

I don't think this is true.

What you think and what are reality are completely at odds here.

This is a true statement. Many types of guns, ordinance, and accessories for guns are in specializes categories for how they can be obtained by the average person. Most in those categories require a tax stamp and permission by local law enforcement to make that purchase. Depending on the area you live in, this can be almost impossible to get.
