I only see 4- and 10-packs of tickets (online) [$35+ and $83+]; I presume you've found 2-packs in-store.

Looking at the AMC "Gold Experience" tickets, it reads "Subject to surcharge for 3D, IMAX®, ETX, alternative content, dine-in theatres, and premium services and locations." I'd see these programs as "alternative content".

A weekend trip to NYC would only cost me $10K if I developed a politician's appetite for hookers. YMMV.

I'd certainly consider this event at $8-$15, even though I despise most opera [exc. the browser]; every once in awhile I have to refresh my reasons for rejecting it. 🙂
