Don’t discuss the Jan. 6 insurrection with students, a Bucks school district tells teachers

This is what Republicans and Trump lies have brought us. We are now unable to discuss truth and facts with school students. Just keep them ignorant of current events until we can figure out a way to craft our lies for whitewashing history.

I've said this before conservatives can't be trusted with history. They can't even tell the truth about events 1 year old. How can they be trusted with the history of this country?

BTW - Anyone buying their CRT bullshit yet??

Pennridge schools ask staff not to talk about insurrection - WHYY

Pointing out the obvious

Pennsylvania has had the third-most accused insurrectionists arrested of any state in the country. And Bucks, an affluent, politically moderate county outside Philadelphia, was home to six of those people — more than any other county in the commonwealth.

The president of the Pennridge School Board, Joan Cullen, is a vocal Trump supporter who was in D.C. on Jan. 6.

One of our teachers got in trouble just over a year ago for saying Trump had been impeached and not convicted (the first time). Parents came in for a meeting, admin wouldn't support the teacher on something that was so obvious. He almost didn't get his contract renewed. It was an 8th grade US History and government class. It's taboo to even talk about elected officials unless they have been dead for 50 or more years. I mourn for our country.

DAMN! What school district?

We are already in the midst of authoritarian rule. Demonize the press. Demonize educators. So how is CRT any kind of problem in schools??

That sounds about right, didn't history end after the deaths of Eisenhower (in 1969) and Kennedy, and if for some very odd reason teaching any non-American history, Khruschev (1971)?

You mean Oct 2001 high school students were forbidden to talk about 9-11? Talk about dumbing down kids.

Public Charter school in Idaho. In this case the snowflakes were major Trump supporters who had no problem with the Clinton impeachment, but go forbid you mention Trump was impeached too. Happens much more than you think and admin was just covering its own ass. We've all been cautioned to stay away from politics in all forms.

On a side note, I do have a Code.org Obama poster on the wall in my lab (along with a bunch of other educational posters). I've been challenged as to why I don't have Trump educational posters .... I always counter with, "if you can find one I'll put it up". But other than that I stay clear of political discussions. Even teaching valid internet research, which is part of my curriculum, is a touchy subject.

They wanted to hang me for putting Q-Basic on the library computers in a middle school (close to Joe's house). I was creating hackers! I told them I should be so lucky.

Did it make the news?

Of course not. It was during the same time our wacko Lt Governor was putting together a task force to investigate indoctrination in education (by liberals). This thread topic as well as my personal experiences show one thing. More hypocrisy on the right. They want their view of the world to be the only one taught while demonizing anything that is counter. Like the parents I mentioned ... it's great if a Democrat is impeached, but god forbid it be a Republican. A good teacher will use both as an example of how the system works. I'm just disappointed our admin was spineless in supporting him. If it had been me, I probably would have got the media involved, but then again in deep red Idaho I'm not sure how that would have worked out.

Examples of what we are up against. The only silver lining is that there was major public backlash against out Lt Gov.

LOL. I have a bunch of hacking books (ethical and non-ethical) in my personal library at school, all available to students. Never had an issue just as long as politics and religion aren't mentioned.

The county and school districts have been in the national news quite a lot lately.

There have been acrimonious school board meetings, and Trump loyalist billionaires funding recent school board elections, and lots of fights between the D gov and the R PA legislature.

The school boards are the new election battlegrounds, and Ds are unaware.

Masks, vaccines, CRT, "liberal indoctrination", that's where the battle is being fought by the angry maga crowd.
https://www.phillymag.com/news/2021/12/18/bucks-county-school-board-elections/

It's important nationally as the Philly suburbs are what swings the state, which swings the Senate races, and swings the presidential election.

Also note, PA Representative Fitzpatrick-R (mostly Bucks county district) was one of the few that actually voted for the infrastructure package. It's a true purple battlefield that has national implications.

Ds need to pay attention to this.

they arent KEEPING anyone ignorant. The kiddies have access to the exact same internet as we do.
Theres no reason they cant go look it up for themselves.

The district just said they dont want the attempted overthrow of our government in class. Thats all.

The point is Jan 6 is legitimate Social Studies material because of it's constitutional implications and it is being suppressed. Besides most kids won't bother getting the information themselves.
