I have repeatedly reported his posts, but nobody seems to respond.
He continues to derail the thread because he will not admit that he mixed up the order in which I posted things, and insists that I said something else than I actually said.
He completely pulls statements out of context and puts words in my mouth, post after post, making it impossible to have a normal discussion.

People like this shouldn't have the right to post on a forum. They cannot adapt.

Scali, numerous people in that thread refuted your comments.

There was a time before AMD gained prominence when intel was able to charge $500-1000 for CPUs. In the P2/P3 days, even low end chips would often run in the $200-300 range. To say that this wasn't bad for consumers is misleading, and this is why you're taking flak in there.

Whatever reasons you may think there are... the amount of flak I'm receiving, and the matter in which it is delivered is beyond any level of civilization.
Just because people (who weren't even around in the days before AMD gained prominence) don't agree with me, doesn't give them the right to derail a forum like this.

This isn't about who is right or wrong (and that is certainly not to be debated in THIS thread). This is about someone doing something to get the forum back to a decent level of civilization.

TBH it seems *really* tame to me. I don't even see any ad-hominem attacks or name calling. I see a little bit of baiting and some very mild flaming.

Based on my recent experience here where I had several members cussing me out and trash talking me, I would say that this thread will soon be locked and you will be told that there was some other forum where this thread should be.

Good luck.

I don't see a problem that is worth a sanction. What I see is that some posters refuse to change their opinion to match yours, providing backup of their opinions, and you taking offense at it. What is happening in that thread is exactly what we want on AT, rational (mostly)discourse without major name calling and flaming. Things would sure be a lot easier if everyone had the same opinion, but it would be pretty boring. Everyone will not be of the same mind with you; that's just life. I suggest you move on.

It seems totally ridiculous, when I have to explain that 'a couple of cores' means 4 used in the context of a quadcore discussion.
Or when I have to specifically point out that Intel CPUs below $300 exist.
Etc.
That's not rational.

And no, I don't take offense of people with a different opinion. I take offense when people insult me and ask me to explain things I never said, or argue about useless details that everyone should already understand, or can just google.
Which I think is because THEY take offense of ME having a different opinion.

Scali, visit P&N for about a week. After that, you'll either leave the forum forever, or you'll see just how tame that discussion really was.

You need to explain things in a different manner (smaller words, more definition, etc) then because the person replying to you doesn't understand what you said.

or argue about useless details that everyone should already understand, or can just google.
You may think it is a useless detail or easy to understand, but that doesn't mean everyone else thinks it is useless or easy to understand.

Which I think is because THEY take offense of ME having a different opinion.
Perhaps. That is the great thing about opinions though, everyone can form a different one using the exact same data inputs. Being unhappy because someone doesn't agree with your opinion is going to lead to a very disappointing and unhappy life.

I think you need to learn how to be a diplomat. The best quote I ever heard is that 'a diplomat can tell you to go to hell, and you will feel good about the trip.' You are not going to be able to sway many folks to your side of an opinion the way you are responding in that thread. Same goes for most of the other folks in that thread.

At one point I was literally quoting the dictionary to point out what I meant (the 'a couple of' thing).
I think that has nothing to do with a technical discussion or anything. That's just people not understanding, or not wanting to understand basic English language.

Good thing that I don't care whether people agree with me or not. I've lived most of my life being in the minority with my opinions. If anyone knows how to live with that, it's me.

I think you need to learn how to be a diplomat.

I don't. I'm an academic, a software engineer and a technology enthusiast. I don't do politics and have no ambition to do so.
I don't need to 'sway people to my side'. I don't care what they believe. Most of the things I say are simply factual, or meant to give a broader view on the situation.
What people do with that, is up to them.
But I don't just want to sit here and be insulted and be expected to quote a dictionary.

If you don't care, then why are we having this discussion? If you didn't care, you wouldn't be defending your opinion so vehenomously, or asking to kick a user out of AT in the post above because he can't understand/agree with what you said.

I don't need to 'sway people to my side'.
Your very first post in this thread is that DominionSeraph should not be allowed to post here because he can't adapt to your view. So you don't wwant to say folks, you want to kick them out for disagreeing. Got it, sorry for miss-interpreting.

See above. If you didn't care, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

If you don't care, then why are we having this discussion?

I already explained, it's not the opinions themselves, but the way in which they are attacked. At some point someone just has to admit that I may have a point, when I have repeatedly explained what I said, and even pointed to a dictionary to make it perfectly clear that the way I used a certain phrase is perfectly valid etc.

Your very first post in this thread is that DominionSeraph should not be allowed to post here because he can't adapt to your view.

No, it doesn't say "adapt to your view". Read it again, see? "your view" isn't there. I'm disappointed that I have to have this discussion with you aswell.
What I meant was, he cannot adapt to the way a civil discussion is meant to be had. Namely, a line earlier, I said " making it impossible to have a normal discussion." This is what I referred to, with 'adapt'.
It isn't about whether he agrees with the point I was originally discussing, but about that he doesn't even agree that I posted one post before another, and the latter post referred to something I said in an earlier post. He tried to claim that my CPU choice is based on price first, while I explain in an earlier post that my CPU choice has to meet certain characteristics, and the result is that I generally buy CPUs of around $300 (which isn't even an opinion, it is a fact that I buy these CPUs at those prices, based on the criteria I mentioned).

I see much disappointment in your future then.

Is that the best you can do, after you've been pointed to the fact that you misinterpreted what I tried to say (which ironically is pretty much the same thing as the issue I opened this thread for, hence my disappointment... it's become a recursive explanation)? And as such you would have to reconsider your judgement?

Is that the best you can do?

I am taking my own advice, because I know I can't change your opinion based on your responses 🙂. What I can do, is offer my condolences that everyone (including myself) can't meet your standards, and best estimate at how your future will go. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. ()🙂

As stated, that was pretty tame by any standards... especially here.

Quit yer bellyachin ya yella-bellied ne'er do well

Okay, so first you give me some advice, so to speak... but that was based on a wrong assumption (you read something that wasn't there).
And then when I tell you what I actually meant to say... you don't give me any renewed advice, or even your thoughts on the matter.
Instead you resort to making light of the situation.

This thread reminds me exactly of the thread in question. A bunch of us here tell Scali that it was tame, yet he continues to disagree and wants to argue about it.

TBH Scali you need to alter your expectations of this type of discourse.

To be honest, he needs to learn to be quiet and move on with his actual argument, rather than letting people who want to argue just for the sake of arguing continue to derail any reasonable discussion.

Nearly every one of his threads turns into what I just read there (and here!). For gods sake, get a grip. State your point. Correct someone once, then move on. Agree to disagree, or just stop talking.

Instead, he turned it into a he-said she-said one-up fest that completely lost any merit the original post might have had.

In short, you need to learn to ignore folks who won't shut up or want to nitpick.

You don't give me any renewed advice, or even your thoughts on the matter. Instead you resort to making light of the situation.

The reason I did not is because I know that you won't like or agree with them so it is a waste of time for me to present them to you. But if you really want them, here they are. Hope you like them, and they are all you hoped for ()🙂

1. You need to understand interpersonal relationships because you have no clue about how they work, or you are choosing to ignore them. Your comments in this thread and in the one you call out are entirely self centered and revolve around you being correct and everyone else being incorrect. Even if you are correct and everyone else isn't, that doesn't mean that the mods ban the person that is incorrect.

2. As several others have pointed out, nothing in that thread (up to when I read it anyway) were worthy of a ban or even a warning. The folks in that thread were being pretty civil about a discussion that can generally run pretty heated (Intel vs AMD). You want action to be taken, but there is nothing actionable in that thread. You need to come to terms with this and decide if you are willing to accept that. If not, then you have some more decisions.

3. Crying 'Ban DominionSeraph because he was mean to me' makes you look childish and pedantic. Welcome to the internet, people can be mean here. Grow a thicker skin, or you will not make it far on a forum.

4. I'm sorry that the mods can't make everyone (including you) happy. Everyone wants different things, and some people just enjoy a good argument. Sometimes, you just need to move on. I suggest you do so.

5. If you continue to drive the original posted thread off topic (especially when you argue about who is driving a thread off topic) you are playing with fire. That will generally get YOU a warning or ban faster than the person you are calling out.

6. I apparently must belatedly inform you that the world isn't fair. Sorry about that.

My final suggestion is that you stop posting in that thread before a mod decides to give you a free vacation to somewhere that isn't here. Sometimes, the one making the most noise (or annoys a mod/admin the most) is the one who gets the boot, no matter who is in the wrong. It is much easier to have a rational discussion when you can actually post 🙂

Pulsar said it right and was so succinct:

"State your point. Correct someone once, then move on. Agree to disagree, or just stop talking."

Thanks Evadman. I have posted a waring in the thread. The others are not as flaming, but all are contributing. At this point, I was not ready to give vacations, so thanks for the eval.

Scali, Go have a beer and chill......

Haha dude you are a peach for trying. If it's any consolation you amused me for 2 minutes even if you didn't get through the OPs thick skull.

I've been on the internet longer than most of you (since before Eternal September), so I don't need your tips on 'how to learn to behave on the internet'.
