some countries make cars that are far worse. america makes some crappy cars but also pumps out a decent amount of quaility cars. france, korea, malaysia, and india on the other hand just make crap. how many people do you know that really really want a kia? or fiat? or citreon? or even a proton (malaysian FYI)?

LOL, Land Rover and Kia are almost identical! Sell your POS Land Rover and buy 4 Kias, so you can have spares when they break!

And once again, this proves that these rankings are totally unreliable.
Mercury 195 per 100 vehicles
Ford 231 per 100 vehicles

I find it hard to believe that Ford builds enough bad cars that Mercury doesn't sell in order to tip the scale that far.

And how old is this article? Why is Oldsmobile still be surveryed? WHy is the Chevrolet Prism the best compact the the S-10 the best small truck?

I call shens.

And you still have idiots stuck in 1981 saying "GM is crap, it'll be in the shop all the time, blah blah blah."

I have a Buick and I can tell from the car itself that most of the materials are good quality....it's only 2 years old, but it's not cheaply made. I don't care what reviews say...you can drive a car and just tell.

Well, the article is one day old and you're welcome to go to the J. D. Power website and look at the press release.

h's right. JD power conducts these tests for 4 year old cars. it is long time durability results.

I've been a pretty big supporter of domestic cars . . .

I owned a 1991 Mercury Sable for years and it was great. everything important worked.

I now drive a 2001 Taurus. Bought it only a couple weeks ago. Yesterday the A/C failed rather spectacularly, complete with white smoke coming out of the hood. I am guessing a bearing seized up and the smoke is either compressor clutch smoke or the belt running over a locked pulley. I shut it off and the car works, but a couple weeks?!

The car is under warrantee . . . powertrain warrantee. I'm gonna bitch at the dealer . . . the car going bad a couple weeks after purchase is just too coincidental for me to stomache right now.

Furthermore, two of my roomates had Taurus's ('96 and '97, I think), both of which had leaking A/C systems to the tune of 1000+ to repair (or a couple bucks a month to just recharge . . . ).

That said, I'll still probably stick with american cars (I like bigger cars for less . . . ) but maybe I'll go away from the Taurus/Sable line . . .

Ford's quality is only improving as they are starting to integrate Volvo engines into their models. :p
