I am trying to connect my dad's laptop and my computer. Both are running WinXP. His laptop is part of a domain at his work. My computer is just connected to a router through which it connects to my DSL. We can't seem to figure out how to connect them. His laptop won't recognize the router when it is connected. I have been told that it's possible to have a computer that is part of a domain connect to another computer outisde the domain but i don't know how. Anyone know how to do this?

I'm not sure if this will fix your problems, but it's worth a try. Goto My network connections and then creat a new network connection. Select the create a small business or home network. Follow the prompts and be sure to put both comptuers on the same workgroup so they will be able to see each other.

Hope this helps.

here goes a shot in the dark...have him log into the local machine not the domain. he should be set up to obtain an ip from a dhcp server at work, if so you can give his nic card and alternative address. for his alternative address give him a static ip on the same segment as your other PC. at the very least you should be able to share files between the two via \\ip.add.re.ss.
