After doing some searching here and viewing some suggestions it seems that
the basic plans from NameCheap and E-Rice would seem to fit my needs well enough. totaling ~$20/yr
Anyone have other suggestions/recommendations? The auto-installer and cPanel at AddAction seem pretty cool, but the price is a bit hefty for me (no, I cannot afford $7/mo 🙁 ).
One question: does namecheap have domain aliases? I have a domain with register.com right now (which expires soon) and I can alias ftp.xxxx.net or mail.xxxx.net to whatever IP i'd like, or would I set that up with e-rice? I used to just run my own machine as a server, so I've never had to deal with the two separate services. Even though I have a domain right now, I feel rather new at this. 😱
Actually....now looking at what AddAction offers more extensively maybe I'll try to coerce my folks into helping with the price (as I'm buying the domain for my family). My question about the IP aliases from NameCheap still stands though.
