Domain transfer question

mugs

Lifer
When I initiate a domain transfer, who gets the e-mail to confirm the transfer? Registrant, administrator, technical contact, or billing contact?

where are you transfering from?

Is it your domain to start of with? Are you just transfering your domain to a new host?

iPowerweb

It is "my" domain, which was registered by them for me when I signed up for hosting with them a year and a half ago. I asked them to change the contact e-mail on the domain to my e-mail address so I could transfer it to a different registrar. Then I plan on moving the domain to a new host. But I need control of the domain before I can do that.

*What I'm wondering is if they changed the correct e-mail address, because several of them are still their e-mail address.

just try emailing their support/billing dept, and tell them that you want to transfer hosting...just ask them to change the dns

If you just want that info changed, just email them again, and ask them why they haven't changed it yet.

Yeah, I'm getting really frustrated with their technical support. If I just have them change the DNS settings, I have no way of renewing the domain in the future. I have no control over the domain as of now, it is renewed as part of my hosting package. What I'm trying to get to the bottom of here is if the problem is on their end (wrong contact e-mail), or if it's something else.

oh, um...i know i had a similar situation, where i registered my domain with my host. I just told them that I'll renew the domain with them every year, change the dns to whatever i want it to be, and cancelled my hosting package...they didn't have a problem with it

This is why it's a bad idea to register your domain through a web host.

Use a real established domain registrar such as GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.

Who owns the domain name if I register it through you?

How do I administer my domain name?

Question
How do I administer my domain name?
Answer
When you sign up for a domain name through iPower, we take care of any changes you need for the domain name. Should you ever want to make the changes yourself, you can do so through the domain's control panel. To log into the control panel for your domain, simply visit:

https://manage.opensrs.net

Enter your domain name, your username, your password, and log in. Keep in mind that you will not be able to make changes unless you contact our transfer department and have them unlock the control panel. This extra step provides more security for your domain account.

Once transfer has unlocked the control panel for your domain, you can log in and change the password, name servers, or any other feature available in the control panel.

Note: We strongly recommend that you let us handle the domain name changes. If you are not fully familiar with how it works, you may stop the domain name from functioning.

If you have any questions, or need the domain control panel unlocked, please email transfer@ipower.com.

I would suggest logging in to opensrs.net, verifying YOUR correct email address and transferring your domain ASAP.

Contact me on AIM if I can be of any help 🙂

Thanks for the info Rossman. I registered the domain in March of 2003... one month before I found Anandtech and learned a heck of a lot more about web hosting. 🙂

Were you able to login to that URL?
