Domain name squatters suck

Nitemare

Thought of a cute domain name and wouldn't you know it, someone was squatting on it with a redirect for seeq.com as well as a boatload of popups. They give you a chance to make an offer...

The quoted price will be at least $688 and may be over $10,000. Due to high demand and decreasing availability, the prices of Premium Domains are rising weekly.

Yeah right, not for a personal website....and no I don't want to install the Seeq toolbar nor do I want to change my homepage.

I hate that too...
but there is a notifier available... that you set up to watch the expiry date... and either notify you, or just buy it outright within seconds of the expiration.

It expires in 2006

use .net instead... that is what I ended up doing...

they aren't squatting on all of them.. .net .org. etc... are they...

squatters suck.

A family name, you might be able to pull a UDRP on them, but it's probably not worth the effort.

That is retarded... I cant stand those people either... I bought a friend of mine a domain a few years back... she just let it expire.. I looked it up recently to see if it was available again... nope... it's redirected to some site that says I can buy it for $999...

I think they're almost as bad as spammers.

the only reason they exist is because some dumbasses let their domains expire and end up buying them back for an assload of money

one domain buy-back is enough money to buy a ton of recently expired domains.

It's like virtual real estate people. To me it's no different than buying up a bunch of land in a place that you hope will one day become popular. You want someone to just give you a piece of property so you can build your house too just b/c you think it's your "family plot" of property? Buy low....sell high.

Yes, I agree, domain name squatters suck. Fortunately, I'm never too attached to a specific domain name so I can always find something, and there's no way I'd ever pay that kind of money for a domain name.
