Domain name purchase

I have a domain name that I would like to purchase. I can see that it expired on August 3rd 2006 (it is expired). I check it everyday and it still shows that it is taken, but at the same time still shows expired.

I remember years ago seeing a diagram or outline of what happens when a domain name expires or nears expiration. What is the timeframe to when I can purchase this domain? What specific domain snagging service is the quickest and has the higest likely-hood of me getting this domain?

It isn't a popular phrase or name or anything, just something I would like for a hobby in the future. 😀

I think that there is a 45 day grace period after it expires for the owner to renew.

Partially true... The grace period is 45 days, but it's not for the owner. It's so the NCC can clear out their databases. During the 45 days the domain name is locked out completely. Neither you nor the previous owner can make a move on it.

After the 45 days is up then it's open season, so if you really want the domain name, keep a real close eye on it and snipe it before the original owner decides he want's to renew.

Actually Grace Period really isn't the best term to use. It's more like a Black-Out peroid in all truthfullness

Good Luck!!

Isn't there a service that will snag it once it is again on the market?

yeah there isnt much of a chance for you to snipe it once it's on the market, considering that there's other domain hoarder bots out there.

ok first there is a redemption period ~10-30 days, then there is extended redemption add an additional 30 days, then there is pending delete which is 10 more days, after that, you can buy it. i work for melbourne IT, yahoo and some other big companies go through us to buy their domains, our redemption period is 10 days, while other companies (register.com) its 30 days...FTW
