I am wanting a specific domain name. I check the WHOIS database and it expires on June 13, 2004 which is 3 days from now. If they dont renew it by that time, Will I immediately get it?

related note: whats this whois? and how do i check if the domain i want is taken?

it stays in limbo for like 30 days after it expires

It stays in limbo for about 45 - 60 days after the expiration date.

Good luck that a domain squatter doesn't grab it first.

www.godaddy.com

type in the domain and if it's taken, there will be a link to see the info.

The company it's registered with can hold onto it for a long time. Then if you ask about it, they can even go back to the original owner and see if they want to renew it or not. So, good luck. 🙂

I'm in the same boat. Guy has a site name that's the .com of one I have the .net for. Difference is, he isn't using the site. It's a Page Not Found error when you try to go to it so I have no idea why the hell he keeps renewing it. And he won't sell it because he's put money into his branding, but he DOESN"T USE the site.

Boggles my mind. And of course he has it at network solutions so he's paying like $50 a year for not using a name. *sigh*

future proofing

Future Proofing? He's had it for 3 years and it's just a variation (not even that close) of his company name. All it takes is rerouting the names servers to where his current site is but he doesn't even do that... Just a waste of money.

And I usually use http://www.betterwhois.com
