Domain controller not found.....How do I fix?

Hey guys,
I am adding a computer to the network at work. We run NT 4.0.
After installing the OS and Networking, I did all the IP address, subnet, etc. The only problem is that I cannot change from a workgroup over to a domain. The computer tells me that it cannot find the domain controller. Can you help?

Can you ping or see the DC (or any other computer on the network) in the network neighborhood.

Was your machine account added to the domain?

Thanks guys,
I found out that the previous owner of the machine was running linux and had flashed the bios on the nic. I had to re-flash back to winnt compatible bios.
