I put in new batteries in my electronic thermostat in August.
Today (Oct), it said it needed new batteries.

Only lasted 2 months.

The last set i put in there (Energizer) lasted 3 yrs!

Note that many devices just won't work with those batteries at all!

I had a package lying around of those exact batteries when my smoke-detector started beeping at 3am.... tried them and still got a "dead battery" chirp lol. (they were like a month old!)

Replaced the next day with Duracell's and the detector worked fine.... returned the garbage Sunbeam batteries and got my $1 back!

I reckon I could throw a battery pretty far! /footballhooligan

Yeah but you want a good solid "D" cell for those purposes not wimpy AA's! :p

METS ROCK THIS HOUSE: FLIERS URGE `BATTERY DAY'
(Chicago Tribune)

"John Rocker Battery Day" was the result of the below. (former pitcher for the MLB Atlanta Braves)

"The Atlanta reliever is suspended for the first two weeks of the season after criticizing New Yorkers, gays, foreigners and even teammates in a magazine interview."

A C is a good chucking size! D is better for putting in a sock and twatting people!

1) Dollar Tree is where you go to get ripped off.
2) Those are for high-drain uses, not a slow trickle like a thermostat.

Big difference between Panasonic and Sunbeam quality-wise.

Panasonic batteries are pretty much on-par with any major US-made brand while Sunbeam is cheap AliExpress-grade crap.

The better quality harborfreight batteries seem decent. I don't use a lot of disposable batteries anymore, but they're about on par with the big names.

I wonder if the "high drain" designation basically implies it has a high self discharge rate. Really it's kind of mind boggling that disposable batteries are still a thing, it's such a waste. Stuff should be designed around ni-mh voltages or 18650 lithium cells.

It's a waste of money but now I only use eveready disposable lithium batteries. They say that they last 8 times longer than alkalines - which may or may not be true. But the one thing I know for certain is that you can drain the piss out of them and they won't leak. That includes ratting you out to the feds.

wait.. what?
why would it die sooner in slow trickle devices?
sounds counter intuitive?

I'm intrigued by this point. It seems plausible that different types of battery would work better for different use-cases, but I'm not clear if it applies both ways, like this. i.e. batteries intended for power-hungry devices actually working worse than other batteries in devices that aren't so demanding.
One thing that needs to die is 'devices with built-in rechargeable batteries that you can't replace without smashing the device to get at them'.

Sunbeam batteries from DollarTwentyFive Tree generally suck, that includes the coin batteries.
Huh. Tried bold face that 1.25 part and nada. Although I did hear this soft, disembodied voice saying "thou shalt not fuck with a quoted post."

Normally I would object but for ATOT? Mmm, not so much.

edit: Printed media normally handles that with a mandatory comment like "emphasis supplied."
