Dolby Sorround

I am pissed nforce 4 boards do not have sound storm! I run my audio into my home theater reciever and currently I do not get surround sound in games such as Doom 3. I am wondering what are some soundstorm like alternatives?

My current sound is the integrated MSI neo 4 platinum sound. Its ran out through a optical line into the reciever. But again I do not get true surround in games.

I have looked at the Montego DDL sound card, and was wondering what Intel's High Definition Audio is in terms of game play back. I am also considering the new Audigy, but the card does not have an optical out for the receiver.

Does your receiver have 5.1 analog input?

In addition to the Montego, there is also the HDA X-Mystique as a DDL card.

The entire audigy line does not support DDL.

Ahhh, good old Soundstorm. I miss those days - it seemed like a fine thing to add, and saved me from having to take up one of the two pci slots on my mini-pc. Why did Nvidia ditch soundstorm anyway?

Possibly involving the poor sound quality (low bitrate) of Dolby Digital (just imagine a 128kbps mp3 ripped from material that was low bitrate to start with, as most games are). It would only do for people who happen to insist on 1 connection only (digital) to a receiver.

It involves very few users, so they probably ditched it for that.
