Has anyone set up a home entertainment system with input coming from TV and from DVD decoder card in computer?

We got a Sony HTD-W620 ( http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consume...ment/hometheaterpackages/htd-w620_specs.shtml ) and a Creative PC-DVD Dxr3 decoder card. Also a Sound Blaster Live! Value sound card.

We can get sound through the front and center speakers but not through the rear speakers when playing a DVD on the computer. When watching TV we get sound through all speakers.

The receiver has the following inputs on the back:
5.1 surround (front l/r, rear l/r, center and woofer)
TV/Sat (l/r sound and video in)
Video (audio l/r, video in, audio l/r out, video out)
Monitor (video out)
How do we set this up to get surround sound, or do we need a separate DVD player?

What audio output did you use from the PC to the receiver? Assuming the PC-DVD decoder card has analog stereo output and the receiver has a built in Dolby Surround Pro-Logic decoder it should work. You might also test the stereo output from the Live! to the receiver while using a software DVD decoder. Also, be sure your source DVD is at least Dolby Surround and you have selected that option from the source's menu.

If you upgrade to the SBlive! 5.1 you will get dolby digital when watching dvd's using the 5.1 inputs on your receiver and three minijack to rca cables.I think that this will give you enhanced prologic while playing games or watching tv because the sound card is doing all the prossesing:).Dolby Digital is definitly worth it if you watch dvd's the sound is so clean and and accurate, you will never go back to just pro logic.Try hooking the audio cable from the dvd-rom directly in to the sound card bypassing the dvd decoders sound system.Hope this helps

You would have to hookup to either the TV/Sat (if not used) or the Video inputs.
Also, make sure the surround speakers are enabled in the receivers menu.....
You should get your output from either the decoder card (probably better) or the Sb Live's Front speaker output.

Woulda been nice if you had a Coax Digital input reciever...that way you could pull a line from the SB Lives digital output straight into the reciever.

Anyhoo, check the above stuffs and let us know :D

Well assuming you are using the DXR3 for audio output you have two choices:

2 channel analog, in which case you should be able enable Pro Logic on the front panel of the reciever.
5.1 channel encoded digital. I didn't see if that decoder supports dolby digitial decoding...if it does Digital is better than Pro Logic...

or you could set it to output through your soundcard in 4 channel mode, so you can hook up the front/rear inputs.
