This is the sorround sound system I just went out and bought

This is the motherboard I have

Anyway I had a problem hooking my computer up to my old system. Old system only had RCA inputs. (Whack) So I was using stereo to RCA cable and those movies sounded fine. The ones with the Dolby Digital Plus. Now I got this new system which has optical in. So I got a optical cable and now connected it to my reciever. It works with music and stuff and most movies. Just the ones with Dolby Digital Plus don't work. Did I buy the wrong type of system, or is there a setting I have to change? I hope I don't have to take this back :/

Also I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks!

Your link is to a shopping cart which requires your cookies.

If you have an older Onkyo receiver, some had a "helicopter" issue with DD+ over HDMI...it required a firmware upgrade.

What receiver do you have, what are the settings on the receiver for optical in? You may just have a setting at too low of a bitrate for DD+

Snaps your right.
I have the RCA RT2870 Home Theater in a Box.

As far as bitrate settings I don't really know too much about this stuff. I played with my Audio deck that installed with the drivers for the audio on the MB. The Sample rate is at 48K, but there is also a 96K. Both of which his, and 48 is the only work that works with music files and none Dolby Digital Plus movies. The bit Depth I have it set to is 24 bit, but there is also a 16 bit. I have the Stereo on Dolby Prologic II. Also tried stereo and that still hissed.

Also yea it does sound like a helicopter. When say firmware did you mean BIOS, or driver for the audio chipset upgrade?

Hmm, so got an update audio driver from asus. Now I if have it set to stereo as the default device, open a movie, and then while a movie is playing set it to SPDIF while the movie is playing the sound will be fine. If I close the movie and restart it while SPDIF is selected it will helicopter hiss still. Sigh....

Others can probably give a better answer but I would try setting the output to the lowest output (48Hz) and see if the problem exists. It may be that your receiver can't handle (or isn't set to receive) a 96Hz signal.

I was referring to a firmware upgrade for an Onkyo receiver, which you don't have so, that is not the problem.

Well problem solved, took the RCA system back and got a Philips one seems to have done the trick, plus it's better quality. I'd say thanks to all, but really only Silvart tried to help. So thanks Silvart.
