Dolby and DTS Surround with 2 speakers? Nakamichi says yes...

Omg...only one speaker...the other one's just the subwoofer??

$799???

For $799 I'd rather buy this

BTW, that's what we bought to pair with our new Grand Wega set!

What I'm guessing it does is use the DSP to alter the L/R/LR surround signals to mimic sounds coming from other directions.

After all, the only way you can localize sounds is by how long they take to reach one ear from another.

Only problem I see is that if you move your head or leave the sweet spot the effect is lost, like those SRS audio things from years past.

I could see w/ 2 speakers since you have 2 ears and you should be able to fool them w/ 2 speakers placed properly. But One speaker... I'd think that would be a bit more challenging. Unless the speaker is IN your head or it uses that weird technology that that guy invented that lets you shoot sound at people (it's true!)..

That technology was pretty cool... but didn't do the 'low's so that's probably why the subwoofer is there.

And then how many people can fit in that sound field...

I remember when Nakamichi meant something.

Yes, the finest receiver I have ever heard I still own. It's a Nakamichi TA-2A. The Stasis technology gave incredably detailed and spacious sonic reproduction. It was far superior to the Denons of the day. It's in the bedroom now, and I will keep this till it dies. For quality of music, it beats units costing a couple thousand.

Look, I'm skeptical, too, but I'd love to hear this demo'd. Unfortunately,
doesn't look like that's possible now. But this guy has a heritage of high-end
audio, so I doubt very seriously he'd put his name and reputation on
something that had no merit.

If it does work, it will certainly do wonders
to alleviate the wiring/setup issues that regular Joes find intimidating.
I do find the price to be on the high side, however. What price convenience?
