Doing reformat... what / how to back up my files???

Hi guys. My OS is going stupid on me so I've decided to reformat and reinstall everything. I've got years of files up on my hard drive, and I don't know exactly what files (extensions) are those that I've created. Anybody have a clue what program I can use or a list of all the possible extensions to files that I may have created, to find my files??? Thanks!

You can get to a list of all file extensions by opening any Windows folder in Explorer, then going to Tools -> Options -> "File types" tab.
