doing pushups everyday is okay?

I keep hearing about this law in working out that you should never work out the same muscles two days in a row. Well I want to do pushups everyday. Is this ok?

Also, what about situps?

Anyone who says its not okay DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Most boxers train by doing many variations of push ups, pullups, and crunches each and every day.

I do pushups and sit-ups everyday, as well as lifting weights every other day. To me pushups seem more like stretching rather than actual work.

Crunched and situps can be done daily, for those muscles "repair" themselves rather quickly. Pushups...I don't see why not.

this guy also has no clue what he's talking about.

Depends on how many you do. If you do it till you tear your muscles than you should rest. If you do it to warm up, it is okay.

why do abs repair themselves any faster than any other muscle group?

I'm not speaking from experience; it's just something that was posted on these forums earlier today or yesterday. No one seemed to object.

Because they're one of the mostly used muscle groups in your body - constant blood flow....

i object until i see some evidence

Yes its fine but you need to do different types. For an example by putting your hands next to each other you are working your triceps, by elevating yoru feet you work more your shoulders. There are several ways to do push ups that work each muscle more than a "normal" push up.

hopefully all parts of my body receive constant blood flow

from watching war/army/military movies, they seem to be constantly doing pushups during bootcamp.

Nope. I'm just trying to build strenght, not muscle for show. I don't really care about how strong I look, its all about internal strength.

If I go to the gym, I'd end up looking like a big muscle dude, which I don't want. I don't mind looking muscular, but not too much. Strength is the key.

You can get more power (as in fast twitch, quick muscles, not slow-twich body builder muscles) using your bodyweight than you can ever get from using the gym equiptment.

just be reasonable.

as long as you are not sore, it's probably ok, although you should take a day off every now and then. there was study done in the military that looked at some injuries soldiers were suffering. they figured out that they were doing so many pushups, larger-than-normal chest muscles were putting stress on their backs.

moral of the story? make sure you keep a balanced physique or it will lead to long term injuries.

I don't think it's possible to do "too many" pushups or situps on a daily basis. People who I've met who did up to 500 a day of either had impressive results after a couple years. Knock yourself out. Now drop and give me 50!

Get some of these too.

It will help you get a wider range of motion and will focus on your chest/back more.

Well sprints and jumping is all well and good.

Barbell plus weights = Clean and Jerks, Snatches, Power Snatches, Squats.

That there will get you fast as anyone.

How many will you plan on doing daily? It is fine as long as your not hitting the 100's everyday. If you carry that on out for 15yrs+ you will knacker your elbow joints.

Push ups is a pretty easy exercise after you can hit 40-60 imo. Clapping push ups is harder. You can clap do push ups and clap your thighs but if your l337 you can clap behind your back and carry on with a push up 😎. Seen very few people who can clap behind their back (extremely fast hands and decent push strength) to clap behind their back and carry onwards.

Koing

I don't think pushups strain the muscles enough to be dangerous when done everyday. Only when I get to 500+ pushups in one session do my chest muscles feel somewhat tight the next day. Make sure you balance your workout with back and core exercises.
