Doing nothing

I have the next day off, and wondered: is it possible to just sleep and relieve myself (as necessary) and nothing else. If you can't sleep just laying in bed all day.

It may be odd, but I have always wanted to try to do nothing for at least 24 hrs, but about 10 hrs in, after a long nights sleep I find myself up and at it no matter what.

I would like to hear others experiences with doing nothing.

While I pity you for not having the imagination to occupy yourself in your own head for 24 hours, you may temporarily overcome this weakness with a few spliffs the size of sequoias.

I guess being laid up is the only real way, medication and injury ftw.

Being medicated is an altered state, that's doing something, I reckon. Doing nothing takes practice. Why don't you go at it as a meditative exercise, think of doing nothing as a task, fulfilling your desire to do.

~~edit, It would be really cool if I stopped posting at 11111.... but I won't.

Correctumundo!!! 🙂

lie in bed and watch TV, sleep, read and sleep some more for the day. It's pretty close to doing nothing.

When I lived in an apartment a few years ago, we got our power shut off, long story short we didnt get it turned back on for the rest of the time we lived there, which was about 3 months. Well we didnt have power and I would come home from work around 7-8pm and just sit there in the dark doing nothing untill it was time for me to go to bed, which was about 11 or 12. It was in the dead of summer too so it was insanely hot, probably the worst experience of my life.

Hmm, interesting. I am going to attempt not to use any form of electronic media for a whole day; that probably won't work. So I couldn't imagine no electricity for three months.

Well I lived with 2 other dudes in an apartment and we are procrastinators so even though the bills were never insanely late, they were never really paid "on time". Well I came home one day and tried to turn the TV and no dice, then I noticed nothing else was working. Not being able remember the last time we paid the elec bill I check it and sure enough on the bill it said "pay by 5pm on xxxx date or your power will be shut off.

I call the power company up and to get the power turned back on we would have had to pay the bill (obviously)+late fees+900 deposit. All of that combined would have been like 1200 bucks, and we didn?t have that kind of money, so we just did without.

We went out and bought lanterns and candles and flashlights and were set. Taking a shower by lantern light is really an interesting experience. Coming home from work and just sitting there sucked big time, I was starting to get a bit of cabin fever from having nothing to do. Also eating cold stew out of a can wasn?t the greatest thing either.

Now about 2 months into this blackout no one had cleaned out the refrigerator and it was starting to smell...big time. I of course got picked to do it. I had to use a homemade biohazard suit and a gas mask the smell was so damn bad.

All in all it was a really bad experience, sitting in the dark, sweltering heat with nothing to do sucks big time. I now of course always pay my bills on time. 😀
