I had a good Japanese Salad recipe a little while ago but I lost it. Can anyone suggest one?

The ginger-sesame version is good. :)

Can't help you there, but I would just like to point out that "Make your own Sushi" parties are AWESOME. It's suprisingly easy and delicious if you get the right ingredients.

i would be curious where you get all the fresh meat and the correct rice for sushi as well. Seems like it would be a lot of work, doing all the cutting and cooking the rice, finding the seaweed and what not. Would love to see some pics if you get around to it.

Most big grocery stores that have a decent ethnic section will have everything you need for sushi (minus the fish). Dried seaweed, sushi rice, sushi vinegar, wasabi paste, etc. I've made it a few times before and it turns out pretty decent. For the fish I usually stick with smoked salmon or tuna, but only because that's the easiest to find where I am, and most of my friends aren't sushi eaters so that's as daring as they'll get.

EDIT: Don't rush the rice! Follow the directions for cooling and seasoning the sushi rice perfectly, as the rice is what makes or breaks the sushi (as long as you didn't get jacked up fish :)).

EDIT2: I guess this thread has gotten a little derailed because by the time I was done reading it I though your question was on where to get sushi stuff. My bad.

Yeah, I know. :)

I actually am going to a Sushi grade fish market to get some sushi this Friday. :) But I also plan to pick up some smoked salmon and some cheaper stuff too.

That's the easy part, lol.

I've done a lot of roll-your-own sushi parties, they are fun. I usually get some fresh tuna (fish store downtown) and just a bunch of stuff at the grocery store like little shrimp, smoked salmon, ham, lettuce, chicken, eel, eggs, etc. The grocery store even has the wasabi, ginger, seaweed, and sushi vinegar. Doesn't need to be fancy. Then just show them how to roll one and they are on their own. One time we ran out of wasabi so my friends started making buffalo chicken rolls (they were suprisingly good with a bit of cream cheese).

What about seaweed salad? Easy to make with dried seaweed, add a little vinegar and salt.

I am also curious about this. My friend bought a book to make your own sushi, but the only place he could find sushi grade fish was a sushi restaurant. The owner said he would sell it at the same price they charge for it prepared so he took a pass.
