Doing a new build - Want Windows 10

I see it's $110 or so on Amazon. Why would I not just buy an OEM Win 7 for $60, then do the update to Win 10 with a software push? Am I missing something here?

Only that you need more work upgrading from 7 to 10.

"work" as in... I go register for the update? Are they going to roll out updates for Win 7 users much later than Win 8? I just don't see any reason to not buy a copy of 7..

You have to install 7 with SP1, activate it, and then upgrade to 10. Read the sticky post on top for a lot more information.

You need to install update KB3035583 (it's optional) on 7 to get the W10 notification icon.

Save the money, but Win 7, update it, upgrade to Win 10.

That win 7 key becomes a Win 10 key

then download the win 10 installation media and do a clean install using that same windows 7 key, you now have a clean installed fully activated and legal windows 10 for cheap

Thanks! I will do this.

Amazon. If you click the "other offers" link, I believe the first one was selling Win 7 OEM for $60...might have been $70, I can't recall. I just know it was cheaper than the Win 8 OEM.

If it is a legitimate Win 7 OEM then yeah there is no reason not to do it. That is a big IF though.
