Doh! Tire Rotation

I admit I'm not that great about rotating tires. In fact I've never done it before. I was getting stuff together to change the oil and transmisison fluid in my wifes car and she wanted the tires rotate. Pep Boys wanted $10, and that seemed worth it so I didn't have to jack the car up and down a dozen times.

Afterwards she has a bad steering wheel jerking, especially around 75mph where she cruises, but I don't think it is wholly smooth at other speeds. She took it to a shop by her work who wanted $30 to balance(though I couldn't imagine the balance going out of whack from removing and moving the tires. She just got a call back, no charge but they said the problem is that they weren't rotated, wore unevenly and can't be fixed.

So I was right about them not being out of balance!

So my options are -
Leave them how they are and hope they wear back to even at some point
Unrotate them back to the positions they were before(hopefully pepboys followed the standard rotation ritual)

any others?

But I want a magic trick like heating them with a propane torch, or coating them with dishwashing liquid.

Or reassurance that they will just fix themselves.

Add more wheel weights to counter the vibrations?

Put in a louder stereo?

Get a heavily padded steering wheel so the vibrations can't be felt?

😀

i choked on my lunch...reading that...

sorry buddy.

if you replaced your tires last year and have this horrible wear in the tires, then your alignment if off. something is worn and moving causing the wear.

reverse what you did. cheapest fix and live with it.

OR buy 2 new tires for and get an alignment.
