lol vista already has SP2? That's nuts, it has not even been out for that long. Shows how crappy it is lol.

And yes I'm in It and we run a proper XP environment, we don't jump on new stuff because it's going to be an issue.

Jumping on Vista was a mistake from day 1. You need to give any new OS enough time to mature before considering it. Now look at everyone that jumped on it, if they had waited they could of just went straight to 7.

Isn't that exactly what happened?

And please, don't turn this into another Vista sucks, Windows 7 is so much better, all while claiming they're the same thing, thread.

That's a terrible idea. People like this are the ones that get used in DOS attacks. It's better to have critical updates pushed down to you instead of you having to remember to go get them. You can set your computer to "don't automatically reboot", but don't turn off automatic updates.

Now, what happened here is you installed Office 2010, which has a lot of Bing integration. The beta probably changed you settings, and when you reinstalled it it probably reset your browser.

I did not say disable, just prompt you when they become available rather than installing them automatically and rebooting your computer for you.

Even if IE was updated, it would ask to change search provider to bing from google as you have to go through the what's new wizard before it allows you to use it.

Can't say I've seen a single update do that so I smell something else at work.

So updates are bad? I don't think you want to go there. If that's the route you want to take, Linux is the worst in the biz. I get reams of updates on my Ubuntu machine, probably average 5 per week since I set it up a year or 2 ago ;^)

I never had issues because I never jumped on it, but if you do a bit of google searching you will see that quite alot of people have tons of issues.

Difference is, I trust Linux updates more then updates pushed by MS. Not saying I would skip MS updates, just validate them all first and maybe wait to make sure no issues are reported. Even with Linux I would wait a bit to ensure there are no known issues but it happens less often.

I bet if you do a google search of your prized "Windows XP" you'll find the opposite, right?
