I dont blame FedEx or anything, I'm just the type that gets excited when I *think* a package is waiting at home for me on my doorstep. And instead, its back in the FedEx location cuz I ordered 3 day shipping instead of 2-day ... I wonder if they really didn't have enough time to get it out to me or not :)

Oh well, just thought it was funny :)

happens all the time. really annoying. "well my package has been here since 4 this afternoon but they're not going to deliver."

at least one of fedex's major depots is on the way home. the other is outta my way. the fedex ground is on the way home too.

Thats like UPS Ground Shipping. All shipments are usually shipped via plane but since you didn't pay their outragous fees, you have to wait. For instance you live in NYC and order something from CA via UPS ground. I ships out from CA on Monday and somehow its in NY on Tuesday meaning it was flying in the air. Typically they end up in Newark NJ I believe. The Package then sits there a day until it is shipped out by truck to another warehouse. So now its Wednesday and your package is about 20 mins from your house. Is it delivered? Fat chance, it sits there Wednseday, Thursday and Friday its ready to ship but alas, the weekend is here. You then must wait Saturday and Sunday to get the package on Monday. However, UPS always likes to come when you're in the shower or taking a leak. BOOM, you wait another day. This only happens if you don't get a regular guy, usually the smart ones will since "Behind Fence" or "Neighbor 413".

Fedex is pretty good with their online tracking since it will tell you "Currently on truck enroute to ___________ ". Sad part is, its always your house that is delivered to last. I think all these shippers have been taking lessons from the USPS and sleep during the day until it about 3:30, then they rush all the deliveries or just driveby your house and if they suspect you're not home, (I.E. - Windows Closed even though they neglect the fact that its 98 outside and the air conditioning is pumping) they keep driving.

God I miss Outpost's free overnight shipping. I'd order it Friday night and it was at my doorstep Saturday morning, sometimes before I even awoke. Almost like Christmas all over again.

Yet again, another misinformed induhvidual. A substantial portion of ground shipments are sent via rail. Semi trailers are picked up by cranes and placed on flatbed rail cars to be sent across the country.

Their ground network supports IIRC 13 million packages a day. Moving that much via air IMHO is impossible in terms of gross weight and volume capacites.

That's pretty messed up. However, you could have called them and probably picked the package up since the Chantilly / Herndon location is open until 9:00 P.M. - well, it just closed a few minutes ago.

I had kind of a weird experience last week while I was awaiting the arrival of my Canon G2 via overnight delivery. On the Friday when it was to arrive, I checked the tracking information at about 7:00 A.M. and noticed that the delivery had been rescheduled for the following Monday. I quickly called FedEx and inquired about a package that was supposed to be guaranteed to arrive the next day would wait through the weekend and be delivered on Monday. The C.S. agent that I talked to said that she could see more information on her screen than I could via the on-line tracking details. Apparently, there was some dispute about the weight of the package, but it was still going to be delivered on that Friday. Sure enough, it arrived that day.

wje,

Yeah I know I could have picked it up, but I'm not in such a huge rush to get the package, I just thought it was sortof a letdown that my package was already on the truck yet it didn't make it to my house ... Oh well, there's always tomorrow :)

I hate the not due for delivery thing. I could have had the mobo I just installed tonight on Friday, thereby doing what took me about 2 hours tonight on the weekend and giving me more free time on a school night like tonight.

Dont know if that comment was directed towards me, but if you'll notice, I said that I didn't blame FedEx. I realize I paid for 3-day shipping, but its just sortof a let-down to see your package on the truck and then realize you need to wait another day to get it. Its just a disappointment. I guess you don't understand that.

That FedEX facility is near me (I am in Manassas)

All i can say is that take their time...not as bad as UPS

Airborne Express has always been flawless for me for some odd reason..aren't they a lot smaller? I know they are air-frieght-based...but damn they are quick...even on Saturday's

I wasn't speaking to you in particular; there have been quite a few of these threads lately - many of them not as level-headed as yours - bitching about shipping, and it's getting annoying. Sorry if you thought I was referring to you, I should have been more specific.
