DOH: hard drive failed exactly 1 month after it went off warranty

RU482

Man, go figure. Good thing there wasn't anything too important on it. This is the second Maxtor drive to fail in our Compaq machines in the last month.

Date Manufactured : 1/7/2000

btw~ 😉 my maxtor is running strong~ 😉 60gb of luvin~

my 30 GB Maxtor 7200RPM died suddenly a month ago. Maxtor replaced it for free, since it was under warranty, with a 60GB 7200RPM so I'm not complaining...

Ooh. You forgot to reset the date on your machine to one year earlier. They put some code into the drive's BIOS to tell it when it's out of warranty so it can crash without costing the company for the RMA, and they can sell you a new one. 😎

Hard drives arent as good as they used to be.. i still got 130MB maxtor, 340MB WD drive, and a few other older drives still kicking while my 80GB seagate that i had for less than a year died on me a while back.

My 80 gigger died last Saturday night. I still have my old 425 meg drive running strong, however. Now have an 80 gig WD. I think harddrives are becomming more unreliable these days. What a shame. However, my 120 meg Conner POS kicked the bucket at less then a year I think.
