Ok I'm scared now...I was just botting up and the hard drive make 4 strange clacking noises like the drive arm was trying to clack into place! It booted up after a few seconds...but man there is no way that noise was normal! It's a 120GB western digital * MB caviar. Man what should I do? I've only had it like 9 months...man WD quality is crap! :brokenheart:

Hmm I ran diagnostics and every test passed fine. What does it mean then?

Means "Click of Death" - back up your data NOW and RMA the drive. I don't care if the tests passed, if you heard what we all think you did, your drive is going to "Die in a Fire" shortly.

Lol mine's done that before. I backed up my data and it hasn't failed yet. It's done it twice in 2 months. It only occurs when starting up randomly though. I'm guessing it's due to the lack of power getting to the drive at first.

2 weeks ago, my pc would freeze for about 60 seconds. I listened closely and heard a very slight click every 10 seconds.

I ran the diags and the drive passed with flying colors.

Next day it screamed CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK and that's the end of the story.

Download and install Everest.

In its Storage section is an icon for SMART.
Click on that, and look for anything failing.

Also pay attention to the numbers for things like Reallocated Sectors, and Read/Write errors. Some might not be failing, but they could be high, indicating a problem. Of course, the clicking was a clear indication of a problem, so do take the recommendations here - get everything you can off the drive, now. When a drive finally decides that it's had enough of life, it usually will kill itself completely, and then, depending on what's on the drive, you may start to panic and ask how much data recovery costs (a lot). So start the evacuation now.🙂
Sometimes they'll just stop spinning, sometimes it won't be recognized, and if it really wants to die, you'll get treated to an all-out head crash.
Those are fun. The read/write head bounces off of the platter, scraping layers of magnetic material off, while taking damage itself.

I'm not good at interpreting it but...it seems everything is normal accoding to SMART. It's ok on everything...

If you want, right-click on the drive, select Copy, and paste it here. It won't be well formatted when it's posted, but will be at least somewhat legible.
