I've never actually taken care of a dog before, but this guy is pretty chill and low maintenance..my only goal is to not kill him, and not have him poo/pee on our carpet.

I live in a condo in downtown SD, so I'd have to take him outside to do his business.

The feeding part should be easy, but I've never understood when you know you need to take him outside, and where outside you're allowed to take a dog.

Any tips would help!

Assuming he's housebroken, call your friend and ask what time the dog normally eats and gets walked, he'll be used to snarfing and pooping at those times, so if possible you should stick to that schedule for him. For an off-schedule pooping, my dog will give me "the look" and I'll just know he has to go out, your mileage may vary. Find an old rag or sock and play with him with it when you have a few free minutes.

What kind of person gives their dog off to someone else to watch without filling them in on the dog's schedule and behaviors....
