I was coding away tonight.. heard a dog barking, sounded right outside my window... I decided to go out and check, as I have 5 cats..

Found my oldest cat up on the top of the fence.. I went over to her.. She had clumps of hair out, some neighborhood dog had bitten her... :|

After I got her in the house, I saw a 1" hole in her side... Took her to the emergency vet, she's spending the night, in an oxygen tent, she may have a collapsed/pierced lung..

Her name is Scully, aka "Big Momma", she's a fat black/white pound kittie, we call her momma because she's constantly cleaning and preening the other cats..

Here's a pic..

Wish her luck.. :(

**UPDATE**
We transferred her from the emergency room to our regular vet this morning..

She had 2 puncture wounds, 1 deep, and now has them sewn up, and drain tubes installed. She should be coming home today, with an array of anti-biotics and an IV...

Poor baby.. :(

Poor Momma! :(

Reminds me why I keep my kitty inside, though.....

Hope she comes thru OK!

Yea, all of our cats are inside/outside cats, she is the biggest "homebody" of all, she rarely goes out, usually only to go to the bathroom...

Hope she'll be alright. If you need advice on her health later on just let me know, I've got 2 vets in the family.

Consider taking a young pup (not a hunting dog, German Shepard would be fine) if you can spare the time, that way the cats will get used to dogs more, and will learn how to deal with them. If you take a female pup she may even develop mother instincts for the cats, and beat up dogs who threaten your cats. We used to have 2 dogs and 2 cats at home, and the cats beat up the dogs in the neighbourhood, and the dogs scared other cats away :)

Dogs aren't all bad, it's mostly a matter of how (if) it's trained, and the race.

I really do feel bad about your cat, but somehow, I think that dog does not give rats ass about what you and I think is wrong.

Brutus is well trained...

And he used to have kitty roommates.

One of them just LOVED him.

He tolerated it. ;)

It sure was a sight to see that tiny little 1/4Lb. kitty curled up sleeping next to that 90Lb. dog though.

Sucks to hear that, but that's just the way it is. Most dogs hate cats, don't know why. My dogs were about to tear up a cat that
wonder into our yard and I just barely got there in time. Cats like to wonder around outside, and often into a dog's backyard.
This particular cat would aways snoop around in our backyard, and when my dogs sees it they go running off after it. Crazy cat was dancing on a thin blade and was only a matter of time before it got caught.
So far where I live, two neighborhood cats have been killed. One by my neighbor's dog. One by my dog. And this one barely escaped.

Maybe you can get one of those electric collars that prohibits animals from wondering too far. These kind of things are hard to avoid.

Cat dog relationships don't always work. The one cat that was torn up by my neighbor's dog grew up together with that same dog.
One of my friend had 4 guard dogs who grew up with a cat. The cat would always sleep with the 4 dogs but when day when he came home he found the cat torn up to a thousand pieces.

Out of control dogs are retarted, especially the ones that are out alone tearing up cat's :disgust:. I hope you were lucky enough to teach that dog who he was messing with.

Hope your cat is okay :(. Owners who don't control their dogs stink.

Damn wild dog, get a gun (not Desert Eagle) so you can shoot it next time.

I guess a pup that can be trained to protect the cats is also good.

I just may dust off the old Ruger .22 long rifle.. :|

Oh, and to the jackasses saying I need to "leash" my cat, she was in MY backyard, looks like the dog may have dug under the fence.

The total for this is nearing $600.00.. :(

But worse, a long-time member of the family is in a kitty hospital...

My doggie killed a rabbit over the weekend that got into my yard. It's natural instincts on the dogs part to protect it's territory. She also catches mice, and scares the squirrels out of my yard. Once a big possum came into the yard. I heard her barking a lot, so I went outside and found the possum frozen scared in my driveway, and it just shat. I was so proud of my dog for not fighting it, but instead keeping it away from the house and barking/warning us about it. Dog's maybe cute and friendly, but they are an animal, and they will act out on instincts. I hope your cat gets better soon :(

Why do you call people a jackass? If the attack was in your backyard then write that in your original post. Your orginal post probably had most people thinking your cat was attack outside of your property. People who are telling you to leash your cat told you so because they thought your cat was wondering around as most cats do.

Sorry to hear about your cat - I hope she'll be okay.

My dog is a weenie - he's afraid of cats and also of dogs half his size.
