Cool video, but I can't disagree with this^ more strongly.

At the risk of sparking a flame war, I'll say that a cat wouldn't have needed saving because it would've avoided the pool in the first place. ;)

The "victim" in the video is irrelevant. I know I'd rather have this dog than any cat if my kid, granny, my drunken self were drowning in a pool.

A cat that manages to fall in for some reason isn't worth saving.

Cool video.

What I can't understand is why some people who don't like one or the other can't respect those that do. It happens in every thread.

DOGS RULE!

Cats are self-serving assholes, plain and simple.

I don't like cats because they don't like me. But in fairness, I dislike cat owners more than I dislike cats. Because they do not take care of their animals and cannot keep them in their own yard. This is sometimes true of dog owners, I've seen dogs outside of their yard a few times. But I see cats in my garage destroying things all the time. And cat owners always find a way to blame their cats on my land destroying my property on me. I'm going to start setting have-a-heart traps for them in my house. And then putting the filled traps by the curb. If their owners find them there, that's cool. Better than having to clean out the trap.

Mitch Hedberg:
Frogs are always cool. Like, never has there been a frog hopping towards me, and I thought, 'Man, I better play dead. Here comes that frog.' I've never said, 'Here comes that frog' in a horrifying manner. It's always optimistic, like, 'Hey, here comes that frog -- fantastic! Maybe he will settle near me.'

Applies to dogs as well. But cats... no. Diseased nasty animals that tear things up for no reason.

Thanks, OP, that made my day! :D

Dog rule, I agree, but those saying here that cats are stupid  or entirely self-serving have never had a relationship with a good cat.

Would you rather love something who loves you back out of their own choice?

Like a human, as we are all self-serving assholes.

Or...

A dog that's born to do so with no other imperative than biological.

I like both, but clearly, cats can take care of themselves much better, while dogs end up being like a baby child for their whole lives.

If you like kids that don't grow up, that's fine I guess. I'd rather have a real kid.

Sorry, I just love the fact that our 8-month old puppy runs to greet me and my wife whenever we come home, she rides in the front seat with me when I go running errands for the day in her little harness (or rides in the back seat if my wife is in the car), she loves all people (especially kids), she loves going for walks/jogs/backpacking, she loves going to the beach and playing in the water -- she's like a member of the family that actually participates in the things that my wife and I like doing.

In a way, you're right, she does remind me of having a child around, but a very loving child I must say :)

Call it instincts, call is thousands of years of evolution -- call it whatever you want, but whatever it is that she does, it's comfort to us. It's all about what your perception of their actions are.

Cats turn women into crazy cat ladies. When was the last time you ever heard of a crazy dog lady?
