Dog lovers! Sound off!

I've owned several dogs in my lifetime, and been close with those owned by family and friends as well. Labs, Huskies, terriers, German Shepherds, Plotthounds, pits and pit half-breeds... but my current breed is officially my favorite. While I don't have any grudge against small breeds (seriously, Corgis and Dachshunds are fantastic dogs, Jack Russells too if you have the energy) I love me a a good big working dog.. Another reason I love Turkey. 🙂

I have a male (not as big as the first one in that clip tho) and female watching our small farm. The male is 125lbs and almost 3 yrs old, the female is 100lbs and seven months younger. Amazing animals, completely different than any other breed I have experience with, particularly in regards to intellect. I have strays, coyotes, coy dogs, and black bear to worry about, and so far in 2 years have had zero incidences. Not once have I had to fetch a rifle and deplete some threats (something I hate doing) They use these dogs in Namibia and Kenya to preserve the cheetahs (they keep everything away from the livestock, causing fewer farmers to reach for their rifles). My male will stand on his hind legs to scope out the approach to the property; he's literally taller than I am (and I measure in at 6'3").

Still, I wish my wife would let me get a Jack Russell. I think that would make a great companion dog for these beasts. I guess I admire big things in little packages.

What canines do you guys have running around? 😉

My roommate's corgi drives me crazy...

I like german shepherds..friends of ours had a small husky (forget the exact name), and she was awesome too.

I like medium to medium large breeds with either a working or sporting background. My favorites are German Shepherds, Labs, Goldens, Huskies, Malamutes and others like that.

NO NO NO NO to yappy anklebiters.

German Shepherds are fantastic dogs! I have a little sister about to leave for culinary school in NYC, I want to train her a German Shepard and gift her with a Kimber .45Auto.
My step father owned two gigantic Huskies, one of them was offspring of the other and a champion sled dog. Absolutely huge, and obeyed him like a Dobbie.

As I recall the Turkish military tried to replace German Shepard and Doberman based K9 units with Anatolians, but turns out their individual, free thinking nature ( like collies almost) made them unsuitable for the strict rules of K9 security work.

Cool to see a lot of Dachshund fans! People give them sh!t because they're short, but those are some vicious little fvckers! Bred to kill badgers weren't they? I had a girlfriend in college whose family had five of them! It was like a roving band of violent mircats I tell you....

Mine were bred for belly rubs and sleeping...

I am partial to Boxers after having one dumped on me that was a year old.....and with me the next ten. I currently have one female Boxer and a male Redbone Coonhound.

I really like our Australian Shepard and the our Great Dane (passed away on Wednesday) was also a great dog. I wouldn't mind have another Great Dane, but they take up a lot of space and food.

I have a Great Pyrenees in the house and a Dachshund that live outside. Ass backwards I know but that's the way it worked out. I need to get a friend for the wiener but that will likely be a mutt from the pound. I also love Airdales and will have another one day. I had one from the time I was 9 until he died when I was 25, he was an old as Airdale, man I love that dog.

Hah, those are the three breeds my family has had. Had a purebred Norwegian Elk Hound, a mix German Shepherd, a mix black lab, and a pure yellow lab. All of them were great dogs, especially the elk hound. He'd follow us around the neighborhood as kids and my mom never gave it a second thought as long a he was with us. My favorite are labs though, they're just loads of fun.

My uncle has a German Shorthair Pointer. Pretty good hunting dog though he knows my aunt is a pushover. He won't listen to a word she says but he'll hop to it if my uncle gives him a command. Another great dog with their kids.

Erased links to avoid upsetting a mod (they were just dog pics, nothing inappropriate).

Great Danes are the most awesome, calm and sweet dogs. Not the brightest but easy keepers and delightful personalities.
